Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
He has a 10 lane Tomy AFX track, but we were only using 8 lanes and rotating lanes each heat, for 8 heats!
Those pictures are staged BTW! Can't take pics and race at the same time!

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
I will get some full pics of my friends track next time I race there! Never thought of it at the time, but I will be going back . It's only an hour away at an "average" 80mph!
Here are some pics of some of the buildings and cars on my track. Please forgive the dust as I have not used it in two years . It's a 4'x10' table 2 lane layout with only one 9" hairpin. All the other corners are 12" and 15" radius for a nice flow. You need this flow when you are running T-Jets with no traction magnets and you have to drift through the turns! Good fun! I will show a full picture of my track much later as I still store RC stuff on it! Another member asked many years ago to see pics of my track! Here ya go Resto!
The Start Finish with some T-Jet Chargers
The Judges Towers and Grand Stand
Pit Lane
The Parking Lot, Back Straight Grand Stand and Service Garage
The Infield Bleachers with a CANAM Shadow on the apex!

Looks good. What did you use on the outside of your turns. I was going to use some train cork road bed but what you're using looks a lot better.

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
That sure brings back memories, slotcarrod! I was digging through some old boxes a while back and turned up all my old AFX slot car stuff, including a track layout I designed that was completely fair. A "fair" track has a number of turns so that each car has the same number of inside & outside lanes. When you're on the outside lane making a turn and you have the guardrail holding you in, you can floor it, but you have to be a lot more careful when you're turning on the inside lane. My layout design had the same number of 90-degree turns for inside & outside for both cars. I never got around to building it though, but I still have that scale track layout on graph paper.
I loved those old AFX cars, because they didn't stick to the track like glue; they fish-tailed and you could use this to knock your opponent out of his slot or right off the track, but it required a lot more driving skill. Good times!

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
Thanks, A friend of mine who is a cabinet maker, made them for me out of I think MBS board! I did the cork thing first and it looked ok but was not smooth enough for T-Jets hanging their asses out! They would flip off the track!SMOKE-DOG wrote:Looks good. What did you use on the outside of your turns. I was going to use some train cork road bed but what you're using looks a lot better.

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
Those are some really nice cars Rod. I remember way back, going to PM (when it was PMS, and old old location )and picking up my first AFX cars. That had to have been 25+ years ago.
Still have em all, and many boxes of track. Tempted to dig them all out and have a few friends over and do some racing this weekend.
Fantastic collection you all have.

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
Dude you should have seen what I had! This is nothing! I was needing some cash in 2006/7 and sold most of it on eBay! Got over 30K $! At the time I only thought is was worth a couple thousand! I just kept a few runners and one of each body type that Aurora made!
Be careful running, because some of yours could be worth some good coin!

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
Wow! That much money hey! I will be much more careful with them. I will say that mine are not all packaged and in as good shape as yours.
No where near as many either. I like the way you have them displayed, and the track. Even if you are using it for storage, cool stuff.

Re: * The OFFICIAL Slot Car Thread*
Sounds good Rod. Thanks for the offer. I think I am going to treat them gingerly from on.
I am not sure about this, but I think we have met. A handful of times at the hobby shop.
