So where would you find foams that fit the bill?
A little internet searching seems to indicate that rc4less.com is probably the best source for foam donuts that might fit.

Proline Waffle's would fit and be "period and tread" correct for an oval car-

Thanks for the suggestions and advice everyone, this is very helpful. I agree with Todd, the pic of those tamiya tires on the 834b with aluminum wheels looks very good.

I have a set of Pro-Line #1016 Waffle tires. The flat portion of the inside lip is about 1.60 so would be a tight fit on the yellow 844b wheels, I only have the 1 set .
