A Different Type of Road Rage

Post by slotcarrod »

I'm getting fed up with the DWA's in Calgary! What's a DWA? Driving While Asian!.... Racist???? The DWA acronym was first explained to me by a Police Man who was of Asian descent!

It seems every where I drive there is someone doing 50k in a 100 zone or stopped at a merge, or driving in both lanes, or stopped at a green light, or blowing a STOP sign or red light, and every time I look who is driving, they are East Indian, Chinese and some times African. How do I know they are African? The African dress! Like WTF! I was at the registry (DMV) and the people taking the driving test could not speak English! If they can't read or speak English, how are they to understand the laws much less a traffic sign? Why is this happening??? Take a look at the cars with Driver Ed roof top signs! They are the same FOB's (Fresh Off the Boat) teaching them to drive! I'm sure money is passed under the table for them to pass the driving test! I just hope that it's not the same situation in other cities around the world!

And put the phone down while driving! Stop driving and texting!!! Although this is not just an ethnic problem! Call me racist, It is what it is, I hate all idiots equally!

Same problem here. It is not racist when it is what it is. 8 out of 10 times when I can see who completed the dumb ass move it is one of those. The other 20% consist of 16 year olds, 80+ year olds and idiots texting or screwing with their phones.

I run into the same garbage all the time, though in my case it's that people just don't know how to F'ing drive. There also isn't any age, race, creed, or color that's worse than another, they're ALL bad!

One of my biggest pet peeves is making turns at a red light. Unless otherwise posted, turns ARE legal after you make a full stop and check traffic. Yes, this includes making left turns onto one way streets! Seriously, how are these people getting a license when they don't even seem to know the basics of vehicle operation?

Then, biggest pet peeve #2 is the F'ing city installing round-abouts, center lane dividers, and all manner of other "traffic calming" garbage then NOT marking it so you can see it. One of the favorites here is putting tiny islands in the middle of crosswalks on narrow streets. These are not marked, nor painted, so coming up on one in the dark can be quite the experience when you don't know they're there. Same goes for those danged speed humps that they don't feel the need to mark, or if they do it's hardly visible. Isn't the purpose to slow vehicles down, not launch them into the surrounding front yards? Trust me, you hit one of those things going the lawful speed of 25 in a residential area and you WILL get air!

#3 on my list goes to "street beautification", this is where they F-up the turn lane so you can't get in and out of businesses. Then they plant trees and shrubs so that you can't see oncoming traffic when making turns in the very few designated turn-outs provided.

Dang it Rod, you see what you've started!!!!!!

You know Rod, before I moved to Montreal to live there for 4 years, from about 2002 to 2006, the only real issue I had with Alberta drivers (Edmonton, anyway) was they were TOO laid-back. Now it's been 6+ years since my return, the economy is booming, people are immigrating here like nobody's business (and I don't just mean from other countries; I also mean from Eastern Canadian provinces)...and the sh!tty drivers have increased exponentially.

I used to almost NEVER get cut off with barely a car-length between our cars...now, I can get cut off 2 or 3 times in just my commute home! And the number of asswipes who want to cut in front of a row of traffic trying to exit an off-ramp, cutting across 3 lanes of traffic, road-rage idiots who want to ride right up my bumper on the highway, acting all pissed off, even though there's a line of cars directly in front of me and nowhere for me to go even if I wanted to...I've honestly never seen such a change for the worse in traffic in such a short period of time!

You're not the only one who has noticed an increase in...shall we be PC and say..."non-native Albertans"...bad drivers here, and the majority of driving instructors I see are similarly "non-native Albertans", which means sh!tty drivers are teaching people to drive sh!tty...but I also still see a helluva lot of "native Albertan" morons texting, yakking on their cellphones while driving, etc.

The drivers here are getting bad enough *without* all the people moving to Alberta because of our bustling economy, bringing their bad driving habits with them, but the latter sure isn't helping any.

This thread reminds me of a line from a great comedian Greg Giraldo(RIP) - "If someone says to you 'I don't mean to sound racist, but...' -it means they're about to say the most racist crap you've ever heard."

It's much funnier hearing him say it rather than reading it.

I've had to use my middle finger (both, actually) a lot more in the past few months than I ever have in my entire time behind the wheel! People are ridiculous! I'm a very defensive driver because I honestly don't trust the other 99% of drivers on the road.

People ride my ass when I'm doing the posted speed limit or a little over, high-beam me for miles while riding my ass, do 20 MPH under the posted speed limit then speed up in passing zones, and people on cell phones...don't even get me started on those f**ktards. :x

The worst drivers of all: 18-wheelers/rigs/coal trucks, etc. These idiots are a hazard to everyone within a few 100 yards! I'm not willing to die because you're a few minutes late with your cargo! :x

Quoted for truth! I have the same problems, save for the big rigs. I figure they put up with the same F-tards that I do, so I give them a wide birth and even hold traffic back around them. I know how frustrating driving a big vehicle is around idiots that don't have a clue. Besides, I kind of go by the rule of "might makes right", meaning the bigger you are, the more you've got the right of way.

Can we also talk about F-tard pedestrians or do we have to stay strictly on topic?

While there are MANY f'tards driving 80k#+ trucks everywhere, if you ever rode the average day in a large car(600-700 miles per day), you'd see the true meaning of hazardous drivers. I have been on almost every part of interstate in this country, and would die trying to find enough time to tell all the stories of the typical 'car' driver. I also have some really good dumb butt truck stories too.
The sad thing is that what Rod has described, many new immigrants who can't even speak English, are also being recruited by the big business trucking industry machine. The old timers have almost left the building as far as driving is concerned.

well if you are in So Cal and you are doing this in the "fast" lane and there is nobody in front of you I will be giving you the salute :P

on the rare occasion that we are not in bumper to bumper traffic please do me a favor and drive at or below the speed limit in one of the other lanes over on the right :!:

do not take this as directed at you - it is directed to everybody in LA that feels they own the FAST lane - slower traffic merge right

My biggest pet peeve is driving in the wrong lane. I find everyone in the GTA Toronto area, drives in the left lane, which is the passing lane. move the F%*k over to your proper lane.

My Dad told me something valuable whan I started driving on 3 lane highways with big rigs...He can only use the middle and right lanes. So the middle is his fast lane and he's tring to make a living so get out of his way.
and give him a flash of the beams when he's safe to merge back in front of you, lets him know his trailer is clear.
Sleeps with a night light on, not because he's scared of the dark but because the dark is scared of him...........stay thirsty my friends

I love this book Bob but my only problem is I don't think they will be able to read and understand the cards!

As far as sitting in the fast/passing lane is concerned! I agree GTFOMW!!!! These guys would not last on a Autobahn! They have no clue! a-holes!
