CVD Threadlock Advice?

I recently had an MIP CVD fall apart on my RC10B4 (the parts never to be found). Upon inspection of the remainng CVD I noticed the pin was completely reliant on the plastic snap ring. Newer designs use the snap ring and a set screw - Much better.

I went ahead and purchased replacement parts, and wanted advise on the correct loctite to use. I've always used blue, but found that purple (222MS) is recommended for screws smaller than 1/4 inch.

Also, any recommendations on how tight to make the set screw, or any other CVD advise/lessons learned.

I'd use blue, but I've never heard of the purple, and if it's designed for small hardware, and you can find it, it sounds like a great plan. The other option is to also throw some heat shrink tubing around the plastic ring, like was recommended prior to them designing the plastic ring. that would give you triple insurance.

I'd tighten the set screw as tight as you feel comfortable, and I would use an 'L' key so you don't crank so hard as to strip out the hex.

Another tip I found usefull is to put some shrink tube over the cvd. It acts like a cvd boot to keep the grease clean and the snap ring in place.

I'm gonna try the notching the pin trick. That sounds like it would solve all my CVD problems. You would think manufacturers would do this to help save some headaches. I've used both blue and red Loctite and have still lost the cross pins on my B44 and Junfac driveshafts on my CR-01 crawler.

Let me know how it works out. It seems like it might be difficult to line up the notch during assembly. I will try it on my T 4 and post the results.

I saw some boots for the cv joints from/for the revo 3.3

would they work for us? they look like they may be reusable even

those traxxas boots will be too big. I'm thinkin the cvd boots that were made awhile back were made my new era but I'm pry wrong on that note. I'll have to dig them out and check to see who actually made them...

Racers Edge used to make boots, don't know if they still are. Shrink tubing is the way to go. You really don't even need the set screw if you use shrink tubing, although I would recommend using it anyway.

I've always used the black MIP thread lock that's included in the package, never had any issues.
Product # is MIP1013 you get both thread lock AND the CVD lube.
