Alternative wheels for B3

Post by mrfoski »

I've been looking around a bit for alternative wheels for the B3 considering that the originals are getting hard to find. The obvious option is the Thunder Tiger Phoenix BX II but recently I've read that Duratrax Evader BX wheels also fit.
The Duratrax wheels come in a few different colours making them a more enticing option if you are doing a custom build. I'm not sure if they actually do fit, just wondering if anyone has tried them and can confirm.

Thunder Tiger BXII rear wheels are direct fit, Duratrax Evader front wheels are direct fit, and there was some rear duratrax rims from a nitro evader or something but they would break anyway-

JC Racing also makes B3 wheels.

Thanks mate. Sounds like you recommend the Thunder Tiger over the Duratrax. Do you think that the original ae plastics are better than the Thunder TIger's or is it likely that they are the same (since its all made in the same place these days)?

The mold seems the same as the original, plastics are different. Asso nylon is better without a doubt, however they're getting scarce and prices for them are climbing. Thunder Tiger wheels seem to hold up better than the Duratrax, but personally I'd rather get some of the JC racing wheels to try out, I've read everyone seems to like them.

Thanks for the advise. Is it best to buy direct from JC Racing or are there online retailers that you can recommend?

You can only buy direct unless that has changed? Just make sure they know you want the B3 versions for 3/16" axles and not the old school 1/4" axles.
