It's all coming back to me now........the timing is well advanced......

Also am I right in thinking the endbell has to go back on the same way it came off.
In other words you can't rotate it 180 degrees.........or can you??

if it's a standard modified motor, you can put the endbell on backwards, for sure.

Yup, 180* out only changes the direction of rotation vs the marks on the endbell. Your reversed probably (it will keep you from having to resolder lol) but to get back to 0* draw an imaginary line from the center of 2 of the mounting screws. That line is exactly between the two magnets. That line is 0*. Put the endbell on there and it should run. As far as how advanced from there you should be, I am way too rusty to know

It's a brushed motor? Endbell has been rotated  pretty common until someone makes that mistake for the first time, after that they never will do it again.
