Acer ceramic bearings

Post by askbob »

Anyone here have any experience with the high dollar Acer ceramic ball bearings? I was in the market for a few high end bearings and these look real nice. They're advertised as being sealed.

Due to Chinese manufacturing, they really are all the same. Blow the cosmoline out and run them. Acer, Boca, Avid etc... are all the same. They are SUPER low friction (ABEC 5-8) but very low durability. I used to change the entire set (16) after every run during oval nationals. The one time I was lazy and let the trans bearings stay in the entire day, my idler bearings fragged and cost me the A-Main qualifier. :|

I tried the Acer ceramics and was a bit skeptical at first. The difference between them and normal cheap bearings quite surprised me, to the point where I'd try them again.

If your just bashing I wouldn't bother with them, but for racing I'd say they are worth it.
