NIB Sealed Original 1989 JRX2 Build Thread
Re: NIB Sealed Original 1989 JRX2 Build Thread
you know it was common for shops that also sold a lot of plastic models (like we did) to have a shrinkwrap machine in the back....

I wish I kept my box.. I say build it.. It was made to be built and run.. I say compromise.. Build it and show it in all it's glory..

Re: NIB Sealed Original 1989 JRX2 Build Thread
So I have been giving this a ton of thought lately. Lots of factors in play.
#1. I paid pretty dearly for it due to being new sealed. Which is and has been my main reason for keeping it new sealed.
#2. However, the only real reason to keep it new and sealed, or the main reason, would be to preserve the resale / appreciation value.
#3. I am 100% certain that this particular kit will never leave my possession as long as I live. The X2 was my first real car 24 years ago (other than my fox), and I searched for years to finally find this brand new sealed example to replace my original, and long gone ('stolen') original X2 from 1989.
#4. So therefore, I am coming around to accepting that it might be OK for me to open this one up, and at least fondle the parts bags for now. Not quite there yet, but almost.
#5. Additionally, it almost makes more sense if I am dead certain this will not be sold, to open it up, preserve all of the materials and box, and actually enjoy building and displaying it.
So, this thread honestly started out as a pure joke, but you never know..........

Once you open it all you will have is a new built Jrx2... you won't have a sealed one anymore. Having a sealed one is rare! You might look into restoring one to display with your sealed kit

Chris, I agree. However, I have never been the 'NIB' type of collector. I know the sealed kit holds great monetary value over and above even an unsealed kit with all other aspects intact (parts bags unopened, etc). However for me, not being in the market to resell it, sealed really only assures me it's new, unused, and complete.
The DO IT gif cracked me up, thanks.

There's this Winneh-the-Pooh quote which you might appreciate!
“Well," said Pooh, "what I like best," and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.”

Re: NIB Sealed Original 1989 JRX2 Build Thread
I always side with leaving a kit alone if it survived so many years.
But..........................since the only barrier is shrink wrap, I would be tempted to open it up to see what variation of parts it holds. Is it a revision A, B or C etc.
I would never build it, find a nice one and clean it up.
P.S. take nice pics of it sealed and being un-sealed

Re: NIB Sealed Original 1989 JRX2 Build Thread
Dont open it!!! you can score another car elsewhere to even box art if you want...but where would you score a sealed? Even if you don't collect NIB it's still a treasure...and once opened it will never be the same treasure as you will join the masses of opened nib's.( i dont really know how many in that mass but thats not the point)
Leave it be in it's own right ! Box art or save another exposed vehicle.

Glad to be back in this hobby so many many years later. To see new things and to recollect on ALL cool vintage models!
