Diggers ,Sweet sweet juicy nectar

Post by marlo »

Has anyone else watched this show, or is it another great Canadian classic.

I'm a novice digger for the last 20 years or so, and while no "great treasures" have been found, I do enjoy bending over 100 times to dig up a penny. But when that quarter pops out of the earth :P oh mamma, that's the good stuff :?
I'll post some pic's of my gear, and what I have found that I haven't cashed in on yet....

Pennys can be worth more than a quarter. Sometimes a lot more....and they don't have to be that old either.

$15,000 for a 1983 penny

$24,000 for a 1992

Here's a pic of my detector. Its a old Radio shack model, but it still works. I need to upgrade,.... down the road.

I cashed in on a lot of finds over the year, so not much left to show.

I had paid $180.00 for the detector, and it has well paid for its self. Schools man, that where you'll find all kinds of cash, and cheep silver. Kids are rich, and they lose everything in the yards!

Should also note, because my detector is an old crappy model, Gold has the same Frequency as rusted metal, I have only found one gold ring, so I now avoid gold. I'm still however searching for an early "gold pan" Edinger, I'll dig one up someday

A month or so ago I was able to save some extra money which is rare, and decided I wanted to finally buy a metal detector. After doing a bunch of research I decided I was going to go with the Minelab brand. You can get their nice higher end models used off of eBay for between $400-$500. I was just about to buy one and my car ended up needing repairs. :?

Have a Whites DFX and a Vision, no pot of gold yet, have found a few old coins.
I have an old homestead behind my house, found it on some old maps from the 1800's.
Weather is just about right for some digging!

I've considered getting one for quite a while. I think it would be really fun for my daughter and I. There are just so many things that i think I want to try that I've learned to be more careful with my impulse buys. I already have so many "interests" collecting dust that I'm afraid to pull the trigger on one of these.

Looks like he has done pretty well with his Radio Shack!
I started with one even older then that and got hooked, they are great starter detectors.
You either get the rush on your first couple of finds, or you don't. I did!

Its a great past time. I found the hardest part was when I did get a hit, then digging it up, people would crowd around to see what was found. I did find that troublesome at first..... but have learned to deal with it. It's easier today to find cash then the past, as $1, and $2 are now coins, and people lose them more then you would think! On a paved path you can spot them, but on earth, they are hidden, and slowly sink down bellow  Old silver coins are always welcomed, as a 25 cent silver piece's can fetch upwards of $2 bucks.
