I must say I'm really really happy with the way my modified unorthodox throttle set up worked out.

Being RHD these cars normally pull the throttle from the front of the carb (non Holley). My other Fairlane had the cable rerouted to pull from the back like normal which resulted in a relatively stiff pedal which I never liked.

I had a friend mill down one of the mounts that came with the bracket so the nuts could clamp square. I was also able to use the factory throttle cable with a few modifications. The pedal is nice and smooth and fairly light, if anything a fraction too light. I still have the option to add some more tension or run a second return spring if required.

I cracked the $#!+'s with the power steering pump. It's gonna take a bit of messing around to get it to line up properly.

Picked up my 10"x11" trans cooler today, supposed to be the best cooler on the market. Just gotta make up some brackets to mount it now...

you should always run a double spring on the throttle as a safety redundancy. Learned that one from my dad long ago. GM ran a smaller spring inside, with a larger spring around the outside.

Not much to update except I got the trans cooler all mounted and hooked up. It's mounted using all factory bolt holes and rubber grommets between the brackets for vibration. It didn't look that big out of the car but its like a mini radiator in the car. I originally wanted to mount it on the "outside" of the brackets but the hood latch would have hit it.

My cheap ebay pulley puller arrived and worked fantastic. I was able to pull the pulley off and space the pump closer to the bracket, esentially moving the pump forward in the car. While I had the bracket off I stripped it and repainted it properly. I wanted to get a billet pulley to replace the boring steel one but it isn't something I can afford at the moment. At least it's easy to replace later.

Nearly vroom vroom time, my goal is late May early June.

After a year and a half the car is due to go to the engine builder for the first start up on Monday. This is provided my fluids arrive tomorrow otherwise I have to postpone it

I mounted and hooked up the power steering pump, hooked up all the vac hoses/washer bottle, cleaned up and painted the coil bracket and mounted the coil, made a new MSD coil wire and replaced the fuel line from the pump with another line I had.

All thats left to do is hook up the distributor and coil, and run a 12v feed to the choke.

Thanks, touch wood everything goes well. There is a lot that can go wrong however.

I put a crate engine in a CHV TRLBLZ a long time ago. I failed to do the static timing adjustment and fired it up and went right to the break in procedure..............well, turned out the timing was a smidge retarded and the exhaust side was running a little "hot". One 3lb fire extinguisher later and after a heaping serving of humble pie, it got sorted out. Learned a lot that day.

Glad we're all a little older these days...

Stoked for you that this thing is coming together. Big old cars are pretty cool.

Finally all finished, wired up the ignition and other various things, tested the choke, drained the fuel tank and put 20 liters of fresh 98 octane. Nothing smoked, popped or fizzled so I'm happy.
