SHY's Kyosho Ultima '87 Evolution
In time for our next Nordic Vintage Challenge race in march 2017 I'm restoring/building a Kyosho Ultima runner.
This is the car I got in a trade from my good friend Lurking CAT on here (David):
Now my good friend Tomas beat me to it and he's already made a runner like I intend to. And just by looking at his car I knew it'd win the last NVC race - and it did so in commanding style! He put on a Ultima II bodyshell. I intend to try and keep the original look and make that work. After all... it's a very iconic and cool car! Here's his chassis:
I'll do pretty much the same, just a little different. And as said with the original cage and all - that's just too iconic to let go:
I'm pretty sure we'll se the Ultima re-released in 2017 as well! That'll be good for vintage racing!
OK, so here's what I have in mind:
-Keep it slim Shady! Nothing sticking out of the chassis. Super shorty LiPo. Low profile servo. Small receiver.
-Carbon towers and front brace. But keep the original plastic top deck as well, just for looks.
-Easy and quick fastening of LiPo.
-Williams Martini F1 livery.
-Ball diff.
-Better shocks/springs.
-Bigger rear wing (modern).
-Adjustable turnbuckles & better ball/ballcups.
-2.2'' inch wheels & tires (NVC regs).
-Polished alu.
-Front windscreen for more downforce.
-RC10 C-hubs & front spindles.
-Shrink wrap wiring to tidy it up.
-Put on rear anti-roll bar.
Stay tuned...

Great plan for my old car - it will certainly have flying career with you! With me it only lived in a museum... Looking forward to see how this project turns out, and some ultimate racing at the NVC

Sorry guys but this place was way more quiet than I had expected. Hence I see no big point in continuing here in english.
So those who are interested can follow the tread here in stead. It's in norwegian and swedish (but you can run it through Google translate):

It's usually not so quiet, but remember, it's winter here in Canada/USA where a good percentage of the membership lives, and I suppose the RC hobby goes a bit dormant during the winter months.SHY wrote:Sorry guys but this place was way more quiet than I had expected. It's winter up here as well. And hardly anyone lives here - still there's way more activity
It's a pity, I really do prefer discussion forums over Facebook. But it seems 95% can't be bothered anymore to log on to anything but Facebook...
oOple (UK) used to be a lively place - dead. Only trading there now.

Re: SHY's Kyosho Ultima '87 Evolution
It IS a pity...I see alot of traffic on facebook from members of the forum that don't post up here that often anymore. I only cruise the posts from my friends list notifications on facebook but won't be bothered to try and find something I seen on there once. Too much of a hassle. My most active is auctions and f/s ads which I only get into mostly to price up some of my stuff. I've cruised through oOple sites myself but once I find a 'home' I don't stray too far from it so sorry RC10Talk.com...I'm here til the endSHY wrote:

I recall mote than a thousand being logged in on oOple. Now: 4.
Here, now: 6. With this few left everybody needs to post like crazy!
Thx guys! Yes indeed 2.2 wheels - and Stagger / Mini Pin. I'll race it in March.
Yeah the slim monocoque kinda works huh?
Gettin' ready to paint it now...
Still waiting for the last chassis parts to arrive...
Btw check out my two treads in the Tamiya section.

Re: SHY's Kyosho Ultima '87 Evolution
This topic has 288 views; not bad. I think a lot of people visit here, but just don't log in or comment. I log in every day just to read what everyone is building, but I don't always feel compelled to comment unless I have something to contribute. I've been watching this thread with interest. And now you have persuaded me to comment on it. Looks great by the way.

Re: SHY's Kyosho Ultima '87 Evolution
I don't think the interest in vintage ANYTHING is going out of style...we're in a lull for the moment, at least the Kyosho section...but it'll come around again.
