Successful Move - Collection *Mostly* Survived

We've recently moved to a new house in town and I'm happy to report that the collection survived. Phew!!!

The new house has dedicated hobby space inside, so I no longer have to build on the garage workbench or kitchen table. Now I just need to get things in order again and build out the new hobby space.

...and there's plenty of space to add a Clodbuster to the stable!!!

Yep, we stayed in town. We only moved a mile down the road to get Kiddo into a better school district, and to get a better tax structure (Clackamas Co.).

Here's the new hobby room currently being painted. Work bench and shelves will go in the right corner.

I take it all back. We had our first significant rain of the season these past few days. All of the RC stuff was stashed on the floor in the back utility room to keep it safe and out of the way until the new work space is setup.

Well... water seeped under the utility room exterior door and left about 1/8'' of standing water on the floor.

Fortunately none of the cars were in the standing water!!!

So far, the only casualty has been the Team Car original box and papers that were inside the box (manual, parts catalog, decal sheet, etc). Bummer, but not the end of the world.

if you didn't throw them away, you can carefully set them aside to dry. they won't be perfect anymore, but should survive.

Yep... They're currently spread out to dry. I'm turning a couple pages per day. Fortunately Team Car manuals are relatively easy to find. I might just have to buy a beater off eBay that comes with the old box and papers to get 'em. I think I just talked myself into getting another "driver"!

Well, everything is dry now. We're nearly positive that the water leaked under the door after the stairwell drain became clogged with leaves in the thunderstorm. The door is the original 1979 door, with no threshold plate! New door has been ordered and should be in place in the next few weeks. Phew!

The decal sheets appear to have survived, and the manuals also appear to be OK. They're just a little warped and crunchy now.

Next step is to decide on a workbench and shelving for the new space...

Trying to decide if I want to build a wood workbench, or buy a composite modular workbench... or maybe something else. I'll come up with something soon.

I built some from online plans- they were very simple and very sturdy. The specific ones I built were aircraft assembly tables, I did modify the length however. I also used a countertop from Lowe’s in place of the plain plywood top. All in all, I would highly recommend looking at these if you want to build them yourself.

I had nearly identical plans in mind! Right down to the laminated counter top.

My only hesitation is that this will be dedicated hobby space and won't need to carry a lot of weight. So, I'm wondering if a constructed workbench will be overkill.

I'm debating if I should just mount some laminated counter top in bar-fashion in an 'L' shape along the two adjoining walls (mount directly to the wall with counter support brackets). This would allow me to work anywhere in the 'L' without banging my knees on the legs of a workbench. If additional support was needed, I could install cabinets under each end of the 'L'. *shrug*

I'm scouring the inter webs for inspiration and ideas!

Ikea has some cabinets that can be used as the base of a very simple table which might be worth looking at. Super cheap too. The ones we got for the kids have legs on one side and cabinet on the other.

Just realized I never posted a picture if the new workspace. The door has been replaced, so no more risk of leaking.

It'll get wall mounted countertop soon in an "L" shape with shelves mounted above. Now trying to decide between laminate and wood butcher block...
