aeiou's Ten4
Yep, I'm showing up a bit late to this party.
I waited too long before, and by the time I was ready, some of the parts were no longer being made. I had an opportunity to grab most of the Ten4 parts from a fellow member a couple months ago, so I figured it was time.
I'm thinking about making this a Factory Works / A&L trailing arm build. I was originally thinking about using the Classis ReRe tub set that I had re-anodized in black, but I'm also considering using the C2 carbon fiber chassis kit.

Very cool. I've never watched one of these built, much less with some trailing arms!

Wow, cool!
Glad you were able to find the parts you needed for your build.
Looks like I need to do a Ten4 re-release
You guys know how slow I am, but eventually the Ten4.1 will come out and then everything will be available again.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
We have a similar desire.. Very intrigued to watch your build. Coming back into he hobby after 26 yrs... I want to do a Ten-4 build with a gold pan and A&L arms. But that will come after the B1m. Hopefully Brian's Ten 4.1 will be ready by then.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
I've decided to give the Factory Works / A&L C2 trailing arm chassis a try for this build. After exchanging a few PMs with Jeff, it was determined that a couple of changes might be necessary to get this chassis to work the way I want with the Ten4 kit. Since I wasn't sure exactly what those changes would be, I started mocking up things using a vintage A&L chassis.
Here are the metal chassis pieces I'll be using. As much as possible, this build will be all carbon fiber flats with black plastics and bare alloy parts. These will eventually be stripped.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
In order to start the mock-up, I needed to at least partially build the Ten4 components.
Starting with the gearboxes, I made the necessary mods to the left-side cases to enlarge the holes for the idler gears. Once that was done, the rest just popped together. Pretty straightforward. Ouch! Remember this?
Luckily, I had a couple of extra lay shafts that Associated sent me back when I was building my World’s ReRe.
That’s much better!
Ready to go.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
For the front end setup, there’s not a lot to it, really. Just a good bit of tapping and reaming. I’ll still need to spend some more time on these parts later to get everything moving freely.
Nowhere near complete, but close enough for a mock-up. I won’t be using the Andy’s arms in the front. I’ll either be using some World’s ReRe arms or perhaps some alloy ones.
For the rear bulkhead, just more tapping and reaming. I’m holding off on trimming the sides of it for now until I’m sure this A&L chassis idea will work. As it sits, the bulkhead limits the trailing arm travel just a smidge.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
After fiddling with this for a bit, it looks like I’ll be extending the chassis at each end by 4mm. Since the measurements between the transmission and the nose plate mounting holes is shorter, I’ll be pushing the front of the chassis and the holes out by 4mm.
In the rear, I’ll be using an alloy motor guard, which will be modified to be the same width as the rear of the A&L chassis and have mounting holes in the same spots. In order for this to work, I’ll need to extend the mounting holes for the A&L chassis Kydex guard by 4mm.
Not trying to be accurate here - just a quick stab at the guard mod to test some ideas.
The other chassis mounting holes will remain in the same place as the original A&L chassis – trailing arms, rear bulkhead, etc. Of course, the new chassis will be drilled for a Stealth transmission. I'll be leaving the servo and battery mounting holes off initially until I figure out where I'll be mounting those.
As of now, I’m liking what I’m seeing as far as the fit goes. Since I’m not drilling this vintage chassis, I had to eyeball the fitment. However, when I hold the front end assembly and rear transmission in the correct locations, with the belt installed, the belt tension looks pretty good.

Received a nice bunch of parts from Jeff this week. Of course, all of the mods are spot-on.

Dang, now I have an itch for this trailing arm build for my collection. Thanks for all of your precise explanations of things as you go along.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
I finally had some time today to make a little more progress. I’ve started the final fab and build up before I dye the plastics, strip anno, etc.
I worked on the chubs for a while and got them working smoothly. This is my first time working with the Dremel on 3D printed parts. It's an odd material to work with - somewhere between Nylon and a bar of soap.
Then I started putting the trailing arm parts together. Assembled the rear portion.

Re: aeiou's Ten4
Once all of these parts were settled into place, I started the motor guard mod.
After a bit of Dremel work, I came up with this shape.
I only removed a minimal amount of material from the rear bulkhead – just enough to prevent contact with the trailing arms.
