Replacement wires for Novak ESC's

Post by Mark Westerfield »

So I want to replace the wire on some older Novak ESC's. M1, HPc, etc. Anyone have a source for the thin insulation silicone 12 and 14 gauge wire like the speed controls came with? TQ wire is wrong gauge and insulation thickness, everything else I've found has insulation that is too thick.

Hi Mark

I have an older Novak and it uses 16ga wires. Maybe some of the newer ESC's used larger wire.
When I raced BITD I usually did replace the wires with a larger gauge. Anything for a possible gain.
It was usually a tricky solder job, wires too large to pass through the case opening and the hole in the PC board too small.
That said, in a 16ga wire I bought some Deans Ultra wire and it is about the same diameter as the Novak wire maybe a tiny bit smaller.
Amain has 12ga and 16ga.

I quite like the TQ 13ga wire, I found it to be the closest match to the Tekin wire on vintage ESC's

I was just wondering if anybody found a source for the thin insulation wire like Novak used.

Stuff like T-4 used 16 gauge, M1 and MXc used 14 gauge, the HPc uses 12 gauge wire. But the wire they used did not have a standard thickness insulation, it’s definitely thinner.

TQ wire has 13 gauge (smaller), and 11 gauge (larger). It’s actually unfortunate they don’t carry 12 gauge, as it would in between and be the correct size. I’ll use TQ 13 gauge if I can’t find proper wire, but I’d rather look for proper wire first.

Standard 12 gauge is 4.5mm outer diameter, Novak is about 3.85mm
