Showing My Age...Question About Newer Brands Out There

Post by Toaster »

So to date myself a little, I was brought up on a diet of Marui, Tamiya, Yokomo, Kyosho, Losi and Associated and only recently really got back into things and there is seemingly a whole new crop of brands out there that I have never heard of and I was curious if any of them are worth checking out (more from a collectibility and rebuilding standpoint than from a racing one?)

Stuff like Team Durango, Team C, Xray, Tenth Technology, Teckno, Duratrax, ECX, Sportwerks, sWorks, XTM

Assume most are out of business but was curious if there was anything I should be avoiding or keeping an eye on?
I come for the RC10's but stay for the Yokomo's :P

Duratrax is another of the old Hobbico brands. They were around back in the day but were more known for budget minded accessories and electronics.

They made some vehicles later but none are what I'd consider collectable. Replacement parts can be troublesome to get.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

Probably the best out of those brands would be Tenth Technology, they made some pretty unique cars which would be the most collectable of the group in my opinion.... Although, in saying that I wouldn't exactly call Tenth Technology a newish brand either, lol

I´ve had a cople of Durangos, seemed like good quality - some thing along the lines of Associated, Losi, Yokomo and Kyosho.
The Tenth Technology and later, Team Xtreme Predators are highly collectable judging by their going prices, but it´s as fragile as a Marui Samurai and very hard to get parts for.

This is great feedback gents, do appreciate it. Wanted to make sure I was potentially not missing out on something but if there are any other brands you might think of that produce 2WD, 4WD or trucks in 1/10 that might be worth mentioning, please do not hesitate to list them...always interested in seeing how far the hobby has come.

Durango made some descent racing vehicles, but I don't think they ever got a great following. They were discontinued a couple years back. Xray and Teckno make some high quality racing vehicles now. I don't know much about them, but they're popular around here. ECX makes some inexpensive stuff, but they are more about bashing, than racing. I think Sportwerks is mainly a UK thing. They had some race stuff a while back, but I'm not too sure what they do now.

I have never driven 1, but a lot of people say the Tekno MT410 is the most durable 1/10th monster truck out.

It's funny my first RC car was The Frog and I was buying some parts for my old RC10 and saw that, and the Subaru Brat on their the web site. They sell an updated version of the Brat (functional the same as the frog but positraction gears and body support for the truck chasis, otherwise it's identical). If they had a lipo version I might consider buying it just for fun.
