Tamiya fox value?

Post by Steve71 »

Sorry is this has been asked, or wrong place to ask, but looking for a value on a car. I'm not a retro/old car guy, I'm here an hang out in the "other" forums with my newer builds. But as a nearly 50 yr old guys, I got into RC back in the 80's with a Tamiya Hornet. My 2nd car was a Tamiya Fox, and I loved that car. I'm thinking of maybe buying a Fox to restore. I see them going for all sorts of prices online though. Whats a normal price I should pay for one? Figured this would be the place to ask.

What's it worth questions are normally against the rules, but since you're not looking for the value of something you personally own, it's cool. :)

The only answer I can give is the one we always do. The classic it's worth what you're willing to pay line. The problem with vintage R/C is that there's no price guide. The other problem is the price of this stuff fluctuates wildly. At the time of this post, prices have been at an all-time high I feel. The speculated cause being due to the pandemic.

Maybe others will chime in with what they bought or sold theirs for. Also, if you put up a wanted ad, you're likely to find one from a fellow member for cheaper than you'd pay on eBay.

I may be way off, but I could see myself going $150 on a nice Fox. But I've done no research and I'm not in the market for one.

Roller, used, complete.

NIB is anybody's guess
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Unless you buy the re-release.... then you can have a brand new, recently manufactured NovaFox (re-re Fox) for the price of a month of coffees.....

Honestly, unless you have a special connection to the original, that's just a money pit..... NovaFox is close enough to the original to be the Fox experience, in my eyes.

I'm with Alex on this one. I wouldn't bother with trying to restore an original Tamiya unless I was willing to spend a fair amount of extra money to replace some plastic that's almost certain to be brittle, damaged and cracked, stripped out, etc. That can be part of the fun of the resto process, to be sure, but if you're building something to run it, I'd just get the re-re.
