Reedy Modifieds - which one would be your favorite?

Post by V12 »

I have a couple of Reedy Modified motors myself. And can´t really tell which one would be my favorite.
At my collection there are the early Igarashi based ones but also something as Ultra or Mr. series.

Also sometimes some other Reedy comes up. But it´s difficult to choose which one to go.

So which Reedy Modified motor would be your favorite and which one would you search for?

To me, the green label Ultra series is the iconic Reedy Modified. When i looked over the printed race results in the magazines, that's what I remember the top racers having. Same for most of the local fast guys.

My current search is for a yellow label. Know anyone that has one? 🤣

I recently picked up a DS modified. I wasn't looking specifically for it and don't see them often so it was a satisfying addition. The Nova modifieds are motors I've never seen. That might be one to look for just to have an unusual Reedy modified.

That motor is not for sale.
Just mean if that would be an Ultra yellow?

I'm not sure what model that yellow label would be. I remember the green label Ultra series motors were gold star, pink dot, red dot, blue dot, etc. Basically all the motors were having green label with minimal ability to distinguish between them once out of the package beyond a little model sticker that would fall off. At least that's how they I remember them being. Everyone had Reedy green label motors, no other label colors.

It's frustrating trying to ID a mod motor that's not NIP. Six years ago I picked up a yellow label Ultra, and an Edinger era green label (+ silver dot) together in a lot and I still don't know if the arms in them are correct. I'm almost convinced they were swapped by the previous owner. The yellow is a 29x2 which seems too slow for a Cadillac era onroad motor, and the green is a 16x1 which seems too hot for an Edinger offroad motor. :?

I don't really have any particular draw to any of the early Reedy motors. Comparatively speaking, many were kinda plain looking. Let's be honest, Trinity made some good looking motors.

I have MCI decals on a couple Yoko motors for some shelf cars, just because they seemed appropriate.

For whatever reason, I kinda want a Stockstar. They look cool but I refuse to pay the going prices.

I do kinda like the Esprit (ES), budget motors. I have a few.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

I do like the original green label Ultra Reedy motors but I guess my favourite is the Schumacher Reedy I had back in 87 in my CAT SWB. I actually have two of these now.

That is a really cool motor! Dang, I'm never going to be able to find one of those.

Well I found one on two separate occasions here in the UK, maybe I was lucky but I found them by chance.

I’m kinda borderline obsessed with the Ultra series Mr. motors myself. Love Sonics, Ultra Sonics and Tri-Sonics as well.

My yellow label Ultra is a blue dot, and the dot still is at the can.
For the Edinger motors I have the green label, yellow label and red label but none of them have a dot. Not sure if they ever had a dot.
