Re: Traxxas TRX1 NIB + Upgrades build (?)
^ TRX-1-3 - Thanks so much! I have been watching your amazing TRX1 and other builds for years.
You are completely correct about the bottom of the motor plate and the tapered cut. When the transmission is mounted to the plate, the cut makes it completely flush with the bottom of the case. Whoever did the work really knew what they were doing. It makes it so there is no twist force put into the cases when mounted up.
I will add a picture of it later.
Cool pictures. The case definitely looks similar.

You have probably already checked but
A quick check of "Delrin" chemical compatibility ( "I am tempted to try whitening it using sun/hydrogen peroxide, but I am not sure it would be compatible?" ) shows...
Also applies to bleach
Awesome car

Saw that Transmission on Ebay, nice snag. Cool to see a prototype like that, or at least that is what it looks like.

Re: Traxxas TRX1 NIB + Upgrades build (?)
I am thrilled to say that I found this NIB Traxxas XL-3 controller. This was the final piece I have been looking for, and should fit this car just right.
I thought these pictures of the box and parts looked pretty cool.
In the below box art photo, the receiver appears to be a Novak NER-2X wrapped in blue material. Does anyone have a suggestion for material that would be a good fit for that color? I plan to try to mimic this look on the same receiver.

As soon as you mentioned hunting down an XL-3, I knew you would find one! No doubt in my mind. That is rad. Looking forward to another immaculate Lavigna build!
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Thanks so much buddy. I thought of you as soon as I got it. You told me I'd find one when several others just laughed. I hope you enjoy the end result.

If you could find blue decal material I bet that would fit the part, wrap the receiver like an Xmas present . That's what it looks like to me.

Re: Traxxas TRX1 NIB + Upgrades build (?)
If there is a sign shop around somewhere near you, like a "FastSigns" or maybe a place that wraps cars. They often have scrap vinyl of various colors and thicknesses (talking "mils") that they might let you sift through. Or they might sell you a foot of it off a roll. 3M makes alot of colored adhesive films. I worked at a couple of sign shops bitd and folks would come in from time to time just looking for a scrap or two for random small projects. We could usually fix 'em up with something. You'd want the thinner stuff to max the contours and achieve that low seam profile. But that all depends on the color match I guess.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Re: Traxxas TRX1 NIB + Upgrades build (?)
Before finding this Traxxas XL-3 controller, I struggled to even find decent pictures of one. So I wanted to pist some clear detailed pictures of the unit, manual, and contents for anyone else who may find it useful.

It looks more recognizable from the box art photo when the heatsink is attached.

Re: Traxxas TRX1 NIB + Upgrades build (?)
I took a deep breath, and started cutting into the beautifully sealed parts bags. Starting with the transmission, I had planned to use the Thorp internals. However I am going to stick with the stock gears and dif. I will be using the A&L outdrives and bones, but stock slipper.
I noticed the parts had yellowed a bit with age, so I gave them a 3 day peroxide bath in the sun. My light box makes white plastics look extremely yellowed. These pieces are actually very bright in person.

Re: Traxxas TRX1 NIB + Upgrades build (?)
Progress.
The blue paint on the rear springs is rough. I think this is pretty common with these kits though.
These have been the most difficult e-clips I have ever had to install.
