I have had one for almost a year now and I love it. I want to get some of the firmwear updated but not in any rush. One thing many people have a issue with is breaking the reverse tab on the throttle. When I broke mine I just used ca glue and a small piece is plastic to reinforce it. You might want to start out and beef it up from the start. Enjoy it.

I have 2 of the older style ones before the this model and 2 of the 3GTB.

Im sending mine away to get the firmwere updated to take 43 models.

The Backlit display mod is changing the screen from blue to white with black characters . ( Easy to read in Day Light.)

Trim value to be increased from 30 to 99. All for $20 here.
Later versions have a shielded pcb board and can't be modded. Think Fly Sky is on it . Seems to be only Fly Sky versions too.

Just put a li po in it.

The Hobby King version us a re badged 3GTB but never in stock as they are half the price. Yep $30 for TX & Rx.

Their Rx's are only $5 so it's a bargain.

I have had mine about a month or so now. I love it. Its quite precise for the price. My racing improved in the first race I used it. I took first place in the b-main, bumped to the a-main. And the outdoor season started, so I am placing consistently in the top 3. So it was definitely worth the money.

Mine is great also, sensible and easy to operate. I had a jr x347 stick radio back in the day that I lost manual for so figuring out adjustments on the fs was a breeze in comparison. Only negative is the batteries I'm using are slightly oversized or the battery tray is too tight so if the radio gets knocked it can sometimes cause the batteries to lose connection from the tabs.

I also have one of these for my trail truck, fits the bill nicely. I know there is a large support community online that offer all sorts of mods and software upgrades.
Also, $7 recievers dont hurt.

Yes the HK rx is the same.

They are very cheap but never in stock. I think lots of hobby shops by from HK than add over 100% to the price in the shop.

Seen this alot here with the Nano Tech batteries of HK too!!!!

An update on my Fly Sky. I am no longer using it. I got an Airtronics MX3X from a friend with 2 receivers for $30, I have been using that.
It makes the Fly Sky look like a toy. MX3X is way more responsive. I no longer have to steer my car lock to lock to go around turns. Spinning out and mistakes have been very minimal. I keep a receiver and the transmitter in my pit box just in case something happens that I'll need it though.

I had a (beginner, but talented) friend let me try his RC8E the other day... fast servo, good electronics, car in good shape, right tires... and a gt3b radio. I tried his car and it felt "funny"... the reaction time was way off. you had to overdrive the car to take it where you wanted, and it felt like you were "disconnected" from it... steering servo was way slower than it should have been and everything was feeling like dampened by some kind of reaction time pad...

I asked him if he had a spare radio just to give it a try... he installed in a plain jane 2PL in there and he had a big "aha" moment... The Gt3b is for sale now and he bought a name-brand radio in the meantime

Indeed interesting. Maybe the slowness in the servo is the servo itself, not the transmitter. Barney has that $8 digital servo in it from HobbyPartz along with the GT3B and that servo's responsiveness is instant. Compared to the old analog Futaba servo in my buddy's Buffalo, it's a night-and-day difference. The old Futaba servo is slo-o-o-o-o-www. My GT3B & digital servo combo makes a full throw instantly in either direction.

Hitec 7955TG: fast, crazy torquey servo... but slow with the Gt3b... and fast again with the 2PL draw your own conclusions!!!

I think it's all in Rx ability to power up high current servos in a 8th buggy.

They are ok in a 10th scale but with a 8th scale the weight and larger tires the servo draws a lot more current to perform.

I think there is a power amp you can buy to help the rx out.

The Fly Sky is a great budget radio thats all.

mmmh... the rx doesn't do anything in terms of providing power to the servos... the power comes straight from the ESC, the rx doesn't even "relay" it as there is plain-jane continuity on the PCB between the pos of the esc plug and the pos of the steering servo plug. If the servo is fast with a 2PL and slow with a GT3B and the same controller, it's the signal that's the culprit...

that "power amp" you're thinking about is an external BEC I would say it actually helps get the servo powered directly from the battery when the built-in BEC from the speedo isn't strong enough, it's not related to the RX in any way.

Again, not bashing the gt3b, it's great for the price...
