Here's some pics after more cleaning and rebuilding the shocks.

I scored some nice Lunsford turnbuckles which were meant for a Losi xxx4, from a local hobby shop.
These turnbuckles are exactly the right length for this series of cars.

Now I'm just waiting for the new shell, undertray and bearings to arrive.

And another question, are there any alloy hubs with bigger bearings that will fit this car?

Yeah, probably not too common in the State's..

I can't wait to get it running again and see if it can keep up to the modern stuff on the track.

Not sure about the rears, but the front C hubs look identical to the CAT3000, and you can get those in purple alloy. I don't have the 98 manual to hand so i can't check the part numbers.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the front hubs are identical to the cat 3000 and it looks like the rears have bigger bearings and may fit.

Do you know if there were any alloy hubs, option or aftermarket?

Thanks

It's been a long time coming, but here are the pics of the fully rebuilt car.

These shots were taken just before the first track outing and I ran out of time to get shots with the body and new wheels on.
The next pics were taken after racing on the weekend, so the car isn't as clean and nice as it was when finished.

I was pretty happy with the cars performance and it was blindingly fast with the Reedy 7.5. I had a bit of a problem with the ESC overheating due to running 20% drag brake, but this will hopefully be resolved with more weight in the front, less drag brake and cooling holes in the shell. I'm hoping more weight up front will make it turn in better without the need for running so much drag brake.

Sorry about the bad mobile phone pics

That looks really cool with the purple turnbuckles and trans housings.. I wish mine had those.

Are you planning to run and race it?

Both are nice. Are those Ballistic Buggy wheels for Schumacher 14mm hex?

Also, trying to rebuild a CAT '98. Does anyone have a scan of the CAT '98 manual?

Yes, they are Ballistic wheels, I found them on Ebay.

As for a manual, I don't think I've ever seen one. There are copy's of the exploded diagram online somewhere, which is good for part numbers.

These cars are really very simple to build and maintain, with the diffs being the only part that needs a little care. There are "how to build" Shumacher diffs on "u-tube" which will apply to the Cat 98. I hope that will help.

Cheers

Hello David,

Thank you for your help. The CAT '98 exploded diagram, along with the 2000, 2000 EC, and 3000 manuals are indeed available on the web. I was looking for the CAT '98 manual because each manual lists slightly different information (e.g. currently available parts at the time).

Wheels:
Beyond Ballistic Buggy wheels, have you tried the Durango 14mm hex? Also, did you consider using a 12mm hex to fit those axles?

Yeah, I though about getting the Durango wheels but didn't want to commit to them until I knew that the offset was the same. I did consider trying to fit newer axles and 12mm hexs, but found the Ballistic wheels and went with those.. I think they look pretty cool.

I really admire your desire to make this car work out on the race track. That Cat2000 shell is my favourite. I used to have one of this particular mold a few years back and I always wondered what exact version it was.
