My Optima series collection
Re: My Optima series collection
Optima went thru hell and back today, the LMT 4200 motor proved to be too fast for the track, the damage:
-bent shock tower
-bent motor guard
-shock rod end broken
-counter gear chip off
-broken shell got even more broken
The ultima final pinion was worn due to dirt got into the gearbox, but seems still can take much more abuse again.
Ill post more pics once I have the time to strip it for inspection

Re: My Optima series collection
Brand new motor guard? Pargu2000 sells repros of many Optima parts including the motor guards, sideguards, etc...but I remember his motor guard was pretty expensive, maybe $41 or something? I see he currently doesn't have one listed, but I know he makes them. You might send him a message and ask.kaz_z wrote:broke my optima steering servo saver (A) recently, so if you have spare lying around n willing to sell, pls pm me your price , also I'm looking for a brand new gold motor guard

Re: My Optima series collection
He had both kinds. I know because I kept seeing one show up in his listings for $41. That's why I said you might want to contact him, as I don't see the motor guard in his current listings. Maybe he wasn't selling enough at his inflated price and stopped producing them?kaz_z wrote:I think pargu made the heat sinktype of motor guard right? I need the kyosho originaltype

The wide hexes come standard on Kyosho's TF-1/2/3 touring cars.kaz_z wrote:wide hex. never seen them before so I bidded from crusaderlf in ebay, they are good if u wanna use modern flat dish wheel on optimas.

Re: My Optima series collection
Those look a bit different from the 3Racing ZX5 shocks I used for CYANide. The ones I bought, the rears were indeed a near-perfect swap, but the fronts needed the shortest ball-cups I could find and a few plastic spacers inside the shock pistons to limit the maximum shock travel, as well as fabricate a taller shock tower. This pic shows what I'm talking about. Even though I'm using short control arms, you can still see the extra length. If I recall correctly, the stock 3Racing front shock was close to 10mm longer than the stock Kyosho Gold front shock. It's do-able but may require some modification if you don't want the front control arms going down way below horizontal.kaz_z wrote:my buddy just send me this, stock zx5 shocks fits optima nicely
What brand of shocks are those, kaz_z?

Re: My Optima series collection
Thanks kaz_z. These are the ones I used, and the fronts will probably be almost a centimeter too long to work properly. If you remove the 3Racing ball-ends (which are also much longer than the stock Kyosho ones) and install the shortest ones you can find, and add a few plastic spacers inside the shock pistons--maybe 4 or 5 mm would be perfect--you'll dial in those shocks very nicely. You'll probably need to do that anyway because the oil in these 3Racing shocks is too heavy. I found 25 or 30 weight to be ideal.

I definitely recommend the shocks, they look great, work very nicely for a runner and are cheap as dirt--just over $25 shipped for all 4.
