Metal gears for the original stealth

Post by metallicats33 »

just wondering if adding the Robinsons Racing Optional Steel Idler Gear for the RC10-GT to my rc10 stealth tranny is a good or bad idea. The stock Idler gear for the Rc10 and Rc10-gt are the same part number (6507) so I assume the steel gear should fit in the rc10 stealth. has anyone used this before? Also is there a metal diff for the RC10 stealth out there?

I've always thought that the metal to nylon/delrin idler was purposely done so that you didn't need to lubricate it. It also gave you a "weak link" in the gearbox so that you wouldn't damage the diff gear. I wouldn't do the metal idler personally. The metal idler may decrease the rolling resistance in the gearbox, but you would need to keep them greased.

i have used this idler in one of my brushless runners and it works well.
you gotta use a lot of black grease though.
once the top shaft wears in with the steel idler the noise will subdue.
good luck!!

that's what I wanted it for, Brushless. If all it damages is the diff then thats cheaper to replace than the idler... Is there a full metal trans out there? MIP? i've never seen an MIP before but heard they are all metal is this true? are they worth it?

I think HG made a metal diff gear at some point.

I have had the plastic idler blow out on me quite a few times. Bad part about it, when it goes, it usually munches the diff gear as well.

I have gotten both alloy idler and diff gears for 2 stealth trans that I have running brushless and lipo on. I'm out working and wont be home til next month to find out how they work. Sounds like some black grease helps a lot. I will follow this thread to see how others made out. I will post something on here too when I get back home.

I've been on a steady diet of stealth idlers lately... going to go with the RR idler.

ANy feedback, before I hit the PAY button, please? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPZ87&P=7

I have a parts B4 stealth here & I'm drooling over the metal diff gear!

I saw Robinson Racing's selection for the GT-- looks like they have a metal diff gear for it. That will fir the 2.25 stealth, correct? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLL23&P=SM

I'm pretty sure the GT used the bigger 2.60:1 differential so that diff gear won't fit the 2.25 Stealths. IIRC, Hammad Ghumman made an aluminum diff gear for the 2.25 Stealth, I'm pretty sure they're hard to come by now though.

The 52t gear = 2,60 like the T2 and GT
The 2,25 is a 45t

well, as predicted, the metal idler gear is no longer the weak link. The diff gear lasted a while, but...

Anyone know of a metal diff gear for the the 45 tooth 2.25 diff?

You guys were right on with that GT diff gear-- it is the same size as the late model stealth trannies.

Brandon-- who is the manufacturer "HG" you mention, please?

http://www.1hg.com/ Their site is worthless though. I think they sell on eBay now.

They don't produce that part any longer, and they're apparently hard to find.
