The Teflon-coated, black-cap shocks would have come out with the Team Car in 1990, with the Stealth tranny. The previous cars, the Graphite and Championship Edition (had the 6-gears), would have had the old bottom-load shocks. The shocks you saw might have been aftermarket of coated/anodized stock units.
