Modern tyres on 3 piece rims?
Modern tyres on 3 piece rims?
I've gone down the route of drilling wheels to fit 10T axles, i am now changing to 3/16 CVD's to use modern wheels without any hassle, however i have several pairs of 10T rims and i was wondering do any modern tyres fit the old rims? or do i just keep them them fresh with the old tyres for the shelf? Just tink it would like nice rollin up on the track with fresh new shoes and authentic wheels!

Re: Modern tyres on 3 piece rims?
some tires will fit, some wont.
I have noticed that some have a ring of radial reinforcement ribs on the inside of the bead, which would prevent the inner rings from seating evenly as there is not a sharp step-off like there is on the older tires.

I don't actually know which ones do and don't. All the modern tires I currently have are already glued up.Caine wrote:yeah i've noticed this on a few of the pairs i have tried from my T4, dont suppose you fancy sharing which ones will fit please?

Think i've sussed it found slotcarrods thread about his runner and he used proline 'bowties' for the rear and 'the edge' on the front. So i'm gonna order some after the holidays and go from there.
No wonder i'd had problems as the only tyres i have unglued are panthers so thanks to JKracing i'll stop messing about with them now!

If they dont fit just leave the inner ring out, screw them together and glue the tires on.

Nope thats one thing i'm not doing is gluing tyres on those old rims, i'll save them for the shelf and use the others for the track

Thats all i run on my t. It sets the look for me. Remember if you ever want the tires off, soak them for a few min in acetone and the tires will come right off. I think I have had 3 or 4 sets of tires on mine
. Truck 3 piece wheels are still pretty regular on the bay, up until a year ago tower still had them on the site. If you did decide to run them you can pick up a set for the price of a modern wheel. I have plenty if you need some to run. Just sold a set of new ones for $15.
