I really REALLY hate dishonest people
I've been trying to find a period correct receiver for my car. I find one on craigslist so I email the guy and meet up with him. He says "Yeah I'm upgrading to run a spektrum radio so I can drive it at the local track without issue." Which only sounded kind of legit to me. Mostly because the guy I met looked like a freaking pedofile.
I get home go to hook it up to my car....................................... nothing. I try my old half broken receiver again just to see if it's something else. Nope that still works until I'm ten feet away as usual.
I try the "new" receiver in a different car........................................ nothing. Ok now I know for a fact something's up. Now I'm pissed. I drove half way across town, during rush hour to meet this guy only to find out I basically gave him $20 for his garbage.
I know it's kin of my fault for not bringing something to test it on, but still I figured people out there in this hobby were at least honest.

I think your problem is more with idiots on Craigslist, not this hobby.

You must be honest then, like myself. It only bothers honest people. Crooks shaft people and get shafted but don't mind because it is part of their game. I sell a part as I would like to recieve it but unfortunately I am a minority.

Re: I really REALLY hate dishonest people
1st things 1st, check the obvious.
depending on how old it is, does the receiver have a BEC circuit?
is it FM, AM, 75mhz, 27mhz ?
you checked for matching crystals and tried different sets?
dont mix up Tx and Rx crystals either
you wouldnt believe how many times people bring their weed eaters and such in because they wont start, and they are simply out of gas.

Re: I really REALLY hate dishonest people
that's one reason i won't buy used radio gear, unless it's something i plan on never using (shelfer/replica). then if i find out that it does work, well....... even better.
you know how many radios i've seen thrown at the track? enough to know not to buy them second hand.
