My vintage Le Mans motors & a few others.

Post by Mad Racer »

I have a real soft spot for the Kyosho motors. I guess i did race them a lot back in the mid 80's. They are just eye candy i feel. Most are new and the others are good examples after a clean up.

Just got the 600E and the Option House motors. To me i feel these are the next best to the Holy Graiel Check Points.I'm not a huge fan of the 360 motors ( 550 Cans) as they weren't race legal. In saying that i do have the 360 Gold & PT.

Nice Le Collection, Mark. I love the colored ones the most, that's a nice top row. The green, red & blue Le Mans motors are gorgeous pieces of electronic art. I wonder why they never did a purple one? :?

Are those rare? I have an SPA 240WS like the second from the left on row 2, it's in mint condition after I rebuilt it. How did they go, compared to the Le Mans 240S or SB? The RPMs are higher for the SPA 240WS, from what I researched. Thanks.

Thanks Guys.

Marc the Spa's are rarer than some Le Mans as they weren't out for long. They came out till replace the Le Mans but only came in 2 versions. A 18x2 & a 24x4. They were clamied to be better as they were the first motors to use wet magnets ( Charged after they were placed in) new design endbell with gold brush hoods. They weren't much better though.

The hardest Le Mans to get was the 480T ( Green) and the both Spa's

WOW......never had imagined that 480T was the hardest to find, as this was my first "modified" motor and is at home since late 80's !!!

now you told told it, I had never seen a 480T at ebay, probably it had not too much success as it was a mild motor, 20500rpm I think, the feeling was similar to drive a lemans stock 05, no much difference other than lower running temperatures as stock 05 used bushings and 480t bearings.

I bougth the 2 SPA together 5 or 6 years ago, I won them at ebay auction with some other used motors in a mixed lot of kyosho trinity and some brand more, perhaps 8 or 9 motors in same lot, all used. they still untested awaiting cleaning and restoration.

Nice collection Mad racer!!!

do you know if the black trinity of the lower file is a Bad Boy?
I have a bad boy , is identical, but the heatsinks were purple in mine!

Nice collection.
My favourite Kyosho motor is the Le Mans 480 Gold and maybe the SPA.
Overall my favourite motors are Checkpoint and early Trinity (sometimes the same) then Kyosho, AYK.....

I got a green 480T and a Revtech based on that green Le Mans.

I had a SPA 240WS I had gotten in a trade once, I remember running it for a little while then trading it for one of the black label Diamond motors.

It's funny how things pan out.
In my late teens I was fortunate enough to work in the local hobby shop and they also gave me small sponsorship. Called ABC Hobbies they specialized in all things Kyosho. I was given option of these motors back then but all I really wanted were TRINITY, TWISTER or TEAM LOSI motors as these seemed like all the rage at the track. Years later I got another job in another hobby shop who's owner bought a huge amount of the ABC stock when they went under. These old motors were in plentiful supply and still they did not interest me. I could have had the pick of the bunch for nix as they just didn't sell.
If only I knew then what I know now.....ha ha ha.

Very cool collection. I thought you might appreciate what I ran across the other day.... I am all nostalgia these days after my recent RC acquisition. Any idea how these two might match up to the old Trinity Monster Horsepower motors?
