Turbo Optima finally painted

Post by DennisM »

Finally found the courage to molest the original Turbo body.
It´s painted in light blue and pearl backed with white.
It seems like the sheet of stickers has left their drawer, a darn shame as they were originals.

Props to anyone straying from box art! I like the blue, it's got a good retro look.

That looks nice Dennis, something a bit different. I've got the same task ahead of me but mine will be box art, just need to nut out how to mask it up to get the proper result.

I noticed you don't have the front brace on it yet.

Nice, clean work Dennis. Painting is my weak point. I can do it but it's so stressful for me that most of my cars end up with clear lexan.

Thanks Keith,
You´ve got good eyes  I´ve got 4-5 Optimas and lacking a couple of braces. I made a brace Yesterday for my belt converted Runner, so hopefully I can re-arrange the other braces and have a new one for the Blue Turbo. Pargu has´em in black aluminum - ain´t all that flexible :-)

Thanks, I think I feel the same way about painting - I do it rarely, so I´ll have to be on my toes, not messing it too much up.

I think the flex of the bumper itself would be enough to absorb any impact. The stock front braces are too weak in my opinion, too many knocks or one hard enough hit and they break clean in half as well as bend the crap out of the lower guard. Maybe not so much with the Turbo's and Salute's as they have the thicker lower guard but it's still the same crappy plastic brace.

I'll be using the Pargu alloy brace in my runners, black ofcourse to keep the original look.

I think It´ll break the "ears" of the gearbox if it takes a direct hit :-)
The original one is made from fibre plastic and is meant to bend.

Yea I realize they are meant to break in a heavy impact (hence the two small holes in either side of the brace) but I reckon they could've maybe come up with something to absorb the impact that didn't break. Obviously it meant that people would have to buy more front braces = more profits for Kyosho. At least they made the lower guards thicker in the later Turbo's/Salute's and the Optima Pro (assuming the Pro's had them).

Madmaxx, nice work on the Turbo body, looks great! :D

That T.Optima paint job looks awesome. I'd take that over box-art anyday! 8)
