New to forum

Post by Alex34 »

Hello all,

New to the board... Had an original RC10T back in 1993, haven't owned RC cars in a very long time and looking to get back into it.

Have my eyes set on an RC10 T4.1 or T4.2 to start off. Will probably own either by the weekend. The wife is game as well so will probably end up getting two or a Rival as well.

Looking for some advice and to share my new car experiences with you guys!

Alex

Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah I noticed this is a vintage board... All of my experiences with RC10s are from back in the 90's so I'm vintage as well I guess :)

Still remember my first mod motor... Trinity Armageddon.

So is there any reason you guys stick with the older RC10s, other than just for the classic appeal? Are the newer ones not up to scratch?

I'll just come out and say it: most new cars look like a$$--from the butt-dragging truggies and sperm-shaped Bulldog-bodied cars to the plastastic chassis components of today's RTR cars. The cars from 20+ years ago just looked so much cooler.

Thanks for the welcomes...

@Coelacanth... I can see what you mean. One thing I loved about my RC10T was that I was able to dye the chassis different colors and you cant really do that with the newer models as they are all black.

Naturally as time goes by technology advances and the cars should evolve to better performing models and I'm sure the new ones have improved in other areas. Is it possible to get the same performance out of a RC10T as you would from say a RC10 T4.1 with a few upgrades?

I do have some really good memories from when I had my RC10T and it would be amazing if I could have that nostalgic look with the modern performance.

Alex, I actually think you can get pretty close to modern performance with various hop-up parts with our old cars. You see all over the forum people saying they can run with--and sometimes even shame--some of the modern cars. I think the suspension & gearbox technology hit a peak of sorts in the late 80's/early 90's, and very little of what you see on modern cars is really innovative, IMHO. People will say the Bulldog bodies are faster, but I have yet to see a comparison of a Bulldog vs, non-Bulldog, sleek vintage body--used on the exact same chassis--proving how much faster the body is. People are always testing the new bodies on newer, upgraded chassis' and that's just not a scientifically valid comparison. And besides, is a change in body truly an innovation, anyway?

The electrics have definitely been innovated since the vintage days but aside from that, not much else has been a game-changing innovation.
