If Kyosho did a re-re, which should be their first release?
I hope Kyosho doesn't ride on the coat-tails of other brands introducing re-releases of their iconic cars, but if they do, which car should be their first? Optima? Ultima? Turbo Optima Mid SE? Something else?
I'd have to say the Optima, as long as it addressed the issues with the weak links; belt instead of chain drive, strengthened chin undertray with stronger bumper & bumper brace, hard final pinion gear & stronger shock towers.
I can't think of another Kyosho car that captured the attention of modelers and off-road racers to the same degree as the Optima. What about your opinions?

Re: If Kyosho did a re-re, which should be their first relea
Well, when they did their diecast pullbacks, they picked the Turbo-Scorpion and the Optima... sounds like good choices for re-re to me
I'd have added "except they will never re-re anything", but these days, you never know anyway

If they did a re-release then definitely the Optima with the upgrades mentioned and improved shocks but still red to keep with the original look.

The Optima Turbo with belt drive conversion is the only one which appeals to me. Or an Optima Pro with some hop ups.

+1. Re-re or not I'd buy one of those.mtbkym01 wrote:Hmm, I'm thinking Scorpion, for my own selfish reasons
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Optima name shows up on a modern car though like they did with the new Scorpion. Could be that's the route Kyosho chooses to sell nostalgia.

Would have to be the standard SWB Mid for me. They wouldn't have to change anything on that. Best all rounder ever!

Re: If Kyosho did a re-re, which should be their first relea
I'd like to see the Turbo Scorpion/ Tomahawk rereleased. But I reckon the original Ultima would be their first. It filled the first three places at the 87 world champs in 2wd. Although, if they rereleased it, it would be great to see a celebration edition come out with the turbo's chassis, gold shocks, bigger shock towers, turnbuckles, bearings, motor guard and a Le Mans motor all wrapped up with the original body.

The only thing with a Mid is it is a huge pain to work on. Swapping a diff means taking the entire car apart. Plus it has no centre diff, so it a bit basic compared to a Yokomo. So the purchase would be based more on looks and rose tinted specs. If those are the buying criteria I personally prefer the looks of the original Optima Turbo and Pro. Each to their own though. Cool cars all the same!

Man you will think I keep picking on you... I swear it's not intentional...kink wrote:The only thing with a Mid is it is a huge pain to work on. Swapping a diff means taking the entire car apart. - a mid isn't any worse than an optima when it comes to working on it
- no model had center diffs but a couple of oddball cars
- ALL OF US are about looks and rose tinted glasses... otherwise we wouldn't spend hours gloating about ill-handling, fragile, disfunctional cars on the internet (let alone spend truckloads of cash to buy some). Otherwise we'd all be driving B4's (some of us do actually

The Pro was the swan song of the optima line, looks like they were just trying to use the parts bin, they added a new top deck, body, underpan and that was it, an entry-level 4wd, slightly hopped up. The Turbo Optima, yes, I agree, that's a killer one

which means it wouldn't be anywhere close to the car that took the title in Romsey1300GT wrote:I'd like to see the Turbo Scorpion/ Tomahawk rereleased. Interestingly, the Ultima has been ressucitated 10yrs ago already... I currently have 2 RB6's at home (and a "true" Ultima too

Good responses, guys. How could I forget the Turbo Scorpion?? I overlooked the Javelin just because it's basically an Optima, but yeah I'd think that would be high on the list, too.

Yep, I know Joel's was highly modified, but second and third placegetters are closer to what my imagination has cooked up.Lonestar wrote:which means it wouldn't be anywhere close to the car that took the title in Romsey1300GT wrote:I'd like to see the Turbo Scorpion/ Tomahawk rereleased.
