What other 2WD do I need?

Post by Synergy »

Ok guys and gal,

My collecting seems to be reaching a natural end (but not my projects). I have quite a few different types of cars but my main interest has always been and remains 2WD race spec buggies. With this in mind I would like some suggestions of what I might be missing. This is a highlight list of the cars of this type that I have at the moment (not variation just type)

RC10 (obviously  ) Tub and Graphite
JRX2
Top Cat
Ultima pro
Astute

I think I have the first 2WD (fully developed) race buggies from Associated, Losi, Schumacher and Tamiya but not Kyosho, and which other manufacturers am I missing :?:

So let me have your thoughts please, thanks.

Have you ever considered the slippery slope of Vintage 2wd buggies like the Sand scorcher/rough rider and Kyosho scoprion, AYK 566b?

How about a Griffin Pro from Academy? There's the old GV1 and the newest is the GV2.

2 "flavors" Neo Griffin (sport version), and Griffin Pro (purple bits, bearings, tie rods)

I agree the SRB, Scorpion era cars should be next on your list, for the day, they were the race cars. Pre -10 of course.

As your timescale misses out the early race buggies how about the Traxxas TRX-1.

From the early years the first Tamiya designed for racing was the Frog, the first Kyosho race version was the Tomahawk. and the first race developed Schumacher 2wd buggy was an upgraded Bolink Digger - looked like a giant Schumacher C car.

Do i ever?

One Schumacher off road racing team Digger. Very successful on smoother tracks compared with SRBs and Scorpions due to lighter weight and better range of gear ratios.

I've just got some misc (read: unpopular) bits...nowhere near a complete car. The stuff is mixed in with a bunch of Jerobee and Leisure parts...for what they seem to be worth these days.

They are always worth something to the right person. Personally, I love the old Jerobee/JoMac/MRP stuff.

I like the weird and wonderful (what I call 'em.... as my wife rolls her eyes  )

Also that awesome, and no doubt supple, front suspension!

Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly put one of those on the shelf...but jeeze, what a turd ugly car. The Eveready sticker is probably the best looking part.

One of my old motorcycle racing buddies accuses me of harboring all things old, odd, obsolete, underpowered, and ugly...

Traxxas popped up first in my mind when you mentioned competition.
Hirobo, AYK, Nishimo, Marui, MRC, PB, Yankee, Mugen and SG are some others you could check: with varying degrees of competitivity obviously. I'm not sure if they all did 2WD but there's more and these are just the electric powered ones.
TC is definitely a great place to discover heaps of obscure stuff
