I've seen it all now- Traxxas edition

Post by GoMachV »

I've been in this hobby a long time and it's no secret that many companies use the same kit under different names...but this one is strange! The Traxxas nitro hawk/street/buggy kits were all the same basic chassis and layout, but I've never seen this! It's an awd street version sold by graupner. I'd love to know more about these. Pretty crazy setup with dual spur gears and belt drive.

Were these also sold as a truck or buggy like the Traxxas branded units?

Ancestor of the 4-Tec I guess?
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

Pretty cool find. Graupner sold cars from all kinds of makers didn't they? Seems like I always see stuff rebranded by them when they pop up

Ya know what else is new? The rc car on the weber grill! I've seen so much granite kitchen counter top, top of a messy workbench, top of a clean work bench, garage floor, foot of the girfriend's bed, coffee table, backyard lawn, brick wall next to the backyard lawn...

The grill! Awesome.

Front wishbones looks like carson - not traxxas. I think the Awd is home brew.
I´ve been German Ebay member for a bit more than 10 years and I´ve never seen this version.

This was produced by Traxxas, right?
I´ve yet too see a Graupner RC car that isn´t a rebadge.
So this one must have been sold as a Traxxas Nitro Street in the US?
It´s a different engine than the 2wd? Was this "square head" one used in other Traxxas cars?

Thanks for Your kind understanding and patience, my medication will arrive later today.

The early traxxas like the wildcat were a rebadge, and it sounds like the nitro series may have been as well- or this was a clone modified to awd. Hard to say, wish we knew more. Traxxas never sold it as a 4wd at least in the states. I know graupner is a rebadger but I'm not sure the true manufacturer. The "image .12" had a blue head and looks like it shares the pull start with this one at least

It looks like maybe it was a precursor to the 4tec.

Pretty sweet/interesting 4wd set-up indeed.

I have only seen one other of these particular Graupner/Traxxas cars over on the Tamiya club.

I have delt with this ebay seller in the past, He has bought a vintage Traxxas or two from me and misc parts.

And yes gomach he does have a pretty nice collection!

Here is a shot of just his vtg Traxxas stuff sitting on the (GRILL) shelf.
