My Economy 10T Brushless Build
So after finding out that all the traction aids and oversteer correction mods I did on my Prolite 4x4 to make it better on my home outdoor dirt track really worked against me on the local indoor clay track, I decided I needed to build a nice little 2WD. Sure, I could have just plunked $200 on a new SC10 RTR, but what fun is that?
So I hopped on the 'bay, and found a decent little 10T to build up. It started life here like this after the $31 purchase and $15 shipping (eBay seller pic):
Filthy, poorly maintained, but solid and with stealth. Nearly a complete roller.
Tore it completely down and scrubbed, rebuilt shocks, went through the trans and regreased. It was a bushing truck, but I had enough left over used bearings on hand from other projects to make it full bearing at no cost. Also had a good set of front wheels and tires lying around, in addition to miscellaneous hardware. The rear wheels that came with it were crap, but the Proline Bowties are in really good shape. The chassis is straight, nothing stripped, spur in good shape. It already had RPM front arms, still in search of white rears.
I have yet to identify the steering blocks & front axles that were on it, but they weren't right, so that got fixed with brand new parts. Gave the brushed stuff to a friend in need, wasn't ever gonna use those bits.
The build list:
-Used Hobbywing SC10 brushless ESC & Hobbywing 10T motor: $50 on Craigslist.
-Used 3/16" universal axles: $13
-Used Lundsford Ti turnbuckles: $12
-RPM ball cups: $5
-New steering blocks, inline axles, servo mounts & battery cups: $15
-New GT2 rear wheels: $6
-New XP DS1903MG Servo: $8
-FS GR3C Receiver: $7
-New front mini bumper: $2
-New Vant 8,000 mAh 40C 2S LiPo: $46
Total build cost, including battery, including all shipping: $210
She did pretty good at the track yesterday. Very hard packed clay, would have been better with Proline calibers or J Concepts Bar Codes, but overall I'm very pleased with the performance.

Re: My Economy 10T Brushless Build
i raced mine with consistent A-Main finishes against all the modern stuff, it's great stuff for the money-
the RPM arms really affected the steering in a negative way IMO (too much flex, too inconsistent)

Have you ran any of those lipos yet? just wondering how they perform and what kind of run time you get.

Re: My Economy 10T Brushless Build
I guess I'm not at the level where I notice that. Maybe I would if I had the rest of my suspension dialed in and tires that hooked right. This is my first electric T, and as such, the first 1/10 ST I've run on clay. I have RPM stuff on my gold pan buggy, didn't seem to change handling, but those are much shorter and more rigid arms. I have them on several of my GTs, but on the loose, rough track that is my home track and the other local outdoor, that would be the kind of subtlety you'd likely never detect amidst everything else.the RPM arms really affected the steering in a negative way IMO (too much flex, too inconsistent)
What is your preferred arm?
Yes, and they're an excellent value, IMO. The only caveat is that they are dimensionally different from your typical Venom, Turnigy, etc; they are shorter length-wise, but thicker. I have this one and a couple of the 6,600 mAh 3S 30-60C units that I use in my Prolite and my brushless GT buggy shortcourse hybrid 1/8 scale thing.Have you ran any of those lipos yet? just wondering how they perform and what kind of run time you get.
Run time I would say is no different than other batteries with similar specs. I can't say I've noticed much difference between the 3S 6,600 30-60c Vant and the 3S 6,000 25-50c Turnigy I have in my gold pan.

I prefer my left, but if I'm pinched for time then I use my right...Sixtysixdeuce wrote:What is your preferred arm?

It's OK. Statistically, about 11% of the population is backwardsI prefer my left, but if I'm pinched for time then I use my right...
Sorry
