YZ-10 for dummies? - 93' WCS

Associated cars have always been my staple for the past 23 odd years. I always remember seeing the YZ-10 Super dog fighter in magazines and always wanted one but have never really searched for one either.

Well, the day has come where I aquired one and have a few questions. I have no idea what version I have but will try to post pictures later, but I'm thinking 93.

1.) Did any YZ-10's come with Associated shocks?

2.) Does yokomo white plastic respond to peroxide like Associated?

3.) Did all versions come with spur gear layshaft one ways?

Welcome to the world of Yokomo's.. I love the series of the yz-10 myself as I also wanted one when I was a kid but couldn't afford one. So now I have almost 4.. I know you checked out the http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2654?? It gives you a pretty good idea.. Here are a couple answers I can give you based on what I have learned so far.

1.) Did any YZ-10's come with Associated shocks? 96 Pavidis.. (yokomo sticky info) Many did change to them though..

2.) Does yokomo white plastic respond to peroxide like Associated? Yup.. Did mine for my 870C and Works 93.. Came out great.. Just don't try to dye the bulkhead caps.. I hear they warp (there was a thread somewhere).

3.) Did all versions come with spur gear layshaft one ways? Not all of them did. The special cars like the 93 WCS came with the TCS (slipper clutch) as did my Works 93. I know the spur gear assembly was carried over to a bunch of Yokomo's with the molded spur and gear with 1-way or full time options.

Post up those pics and I bet you will get your answer to which one you have. You know it always works that way huh??

Here's a crappy pic from my stove top. The car is in better shape then it looks and will clean up well. The car has what appears to be magneseum rear bulkhead, plastic fronts and fine pitch belt. Anything else I should look out for?

I haven't touched it yet but chassis etc seem to be in good shape (aside from dried servo tape gunk from the under tray). There are no deep scratches or gouges and arms only have light scuffs.

Dang, that chassis has been modded to adjust the belt tension like the 93' works That sucks- (very cool car none the less) arms are exactly period correct for that race car

I'm amazed at how many WCS's have come out of Australia...

So it is a 93' WCS?

I think I sold a brand new chassis plate (exactly the same) to a friend for his dogfighter.

What should I do with it, restore it as close to original as possible, build it however?

if you can't end up with the unmodified chassis plate, you could always add a yr4 adjustment plate, essentially a small plate that lines up with the bulkhead holes and helps clamp the chassis between it and the bulkhead, making the adjustment a little more secure, and covers up the slots.

If I can't get the Yokomo chassis back would a Fiberlyte WCS chassis degrade the car or is it best to try to keep it original with the modified chassis? Are the arms an option part and not original?

Sounds like true WCS cars are quite rare....

There are 8-9 here that I know of right off, plus a few more that haven't been seen. Rare for sure. Fiberlyte makes an outstanding repro (but expensive) thanks to the dilligent work and expense of DerbyDan. The car is run, not 100% complete WCS in some parts like steering rack that I see, rear tower is broken @ top etc..so a FL chassis really couldn't hurt any later values IMHO

Sure the chassis is WCS, little parts still needed for original like white steering brace.may be the owner used a little longer belt or the belt getting loosing rear bulkhead little removed backward.you also can check the wheel adapters if the lightweight one. wcs battery post plates are black.

The hubs are lightweight, star shaped instead of square. I'll keep an eye out for black battery posts. Were ball cups and rod ends white?

Well color me jealous... your first is a 93 WCS.. like everyone is saying it is one of the most rare yz10's.. as far as the ballcups and rod ends, yes they are white.. you know if you don't like it you can send it to me..
