Need Help Picking an ESC & Motor

Any suggestions on what kind of ESC Motor combo I should be running for my RC10 DS?

As of now, I am looking for brushless and non-censored. I will not be competing, will be running on asphalt and plan on using a LiPo battery.

Here is what I am looking at so far:

the MMP combo is total overkill. im not sure it would fit in the car too.

I have the Sidewinder 3800 combo in one of my buggies and its a lot of power for the car. Its a good bang for buck combo but dont expect to use the motor fan w/o cutting away a large chunk of the motor plate.

no real opinion on the xp/reedy system.

Doesn't the higher "KV" equate to more power?

KV is the RPM per each volt. So a 3000kv motor "roughly" equates to 3000 rpm per volt.

I have used all of these combos in one of my RC vehicles over the years. Here's my take - the XP is just 'okay'. While it seems to be a bit smoother in operation than the Castle systems, its no where near as flexible or programmable.

Now, if that isn't important to you, then get that system.

If it is, then you should look at one of the Castle systems. But the 3800 and 2400 are designed more for torque than speed. I would suggest a 4600 motor as that would be LOTS of power for the DS. I'm running a 4600 in my T4 and it just flies and still has tons of torque for off roading. I also run a 5700 in my RC10 buggy but its bordering on overkill. Depends on your gearing and the battery you are using too.

I spoke to someone at Team Associate and they told me that a DS could not handle anything over 3900kv.

It's reassuring to hear that other are running faster motors in similar cars.

Not restricting my criteria to under 3900kv opens up many more options!

I'm not familiar with the DS but isn't it essentially the same as the RC10 buggy except its an onroad car? If it has the same stealth tranny then there is nothing to worry about power wise - you can put a huge motor on it, just need to gear it correctly.

I would think thats about right. I would think putting the 3800 motor in the rc10 is about the same to putting a 1/8 system into a rustler like so many others have. I wanted to suggest the 4600 motor but i felt at odds about it. on 2S that car will fly.

All of those choices are way too much power. You're going to have a hard time keeping the diff alive with them. I would suggest you look at the Hobbywing Just Stock Club Spec ESC (Sensored for $50) and a Trackstar 17.5 motor ($35).

I kind of agree with ca-rj, but I would suggest a motor that's no lower than 13.5T without a lot of attention paid to bulletproofing the drivetrain. 17.5T might be erring too much on the safe side.

The Stealth can handle just about any motor, if built correctly! Even though your DS may or may not have a slipper, a slipper would be best for anything lower than a 8.5 or 8. Nothing in that list is too much for a Stealth using a 7.4 volt lipo. 11.1 may be another thing if you like to punch the gas or do donuts!

What do you mean "build correctly'? Does a stealth need to be upgraded?

No he means that you have to make sure that its built to the exact specs that are in the instructions.

my thoughts exactly. a stealth can handle anything you throw at it, provided it's maintained and built well.

b4 top shaft and slipper and it will take anything a b4 will.

I can say that I have never worried about one of these tranny's letting me down.ever.
