Schumacher Cat XLS runner
Hey guys, I thought I'd throw up some pics of my modded Shumacher Cat XLS runner. I've had this car for many years now and it has proven to be a great fun super aggressive car to run. These things corner like nothing else, even making a XX4 look slow through the twisties.
I'm planning to take it out and race it again this year. I'll probably just run rebuildable stock as I don't have a slipper clutch or a decent brushless setup as yet. That said it holds up fine to a SS5800, though it is hard to stuff it under the bodyshell.
Oh yea, I'll either run my Novak T-1 or Tekin 411P in it with the stock motor.
The car features:
Model Motorsport rear drum diff and layshaft.
Slotted rear belt eccentrics for infinite belt adjustment.
Procat front gear box housing with custom carbon tensioner bracket.
Procat rear suspension setup.
Carbon fibre rear camber plate, and some rear swaybar I can't remember the source of.
Carbon fibre steering rack, and front top deck brace.
Cougar saddle pack holders and straps.
Yokomo rim adaptors.
Trinity 2.2" rims which have just been given a quick coat of paint to tidy them up a bit.
All new proline tyres ready for racing.
I did have the proper narrow saddle pack chassis, but for some stupid reason I cut it up trying to fit it to a TA01 about 10 years ago. I've still got the parts and may try resurrecting it like I saw scr8p did in one of his posts with a graphite chassis. Nice work dude.
Doug.

Now that's a car with character!
I like runners: they have more personality to them and that show in your pics.

Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
Does anyone know who made the Yokomo wheel adaptors and where I can get a set?
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
Mr. ED, yea I like runners as well. Nothing like the feeling of giving a modern car a run for it's money with an old outdated car. Personally I think the main improvements over the years have been in tyre design and motors/batteries... Nothing that can't be retrofitted to an older car to make it competitive.
I need to strip down the car to rebuild the transmission and give it a good going through. I might polish up the gbox sideplates and tart up the old girl a bit while I'm at it.
I can't quite remember who made the wheel adapters. Think it could have been either Yokomo or Trinity. I remember they were all the rage just after the world champs in Australia when Yokomo rocked the boat with the release of their 2.2" tyres. I've got a few different sets to suit Kyosho 2wd's and 4wd's as well.

Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
I recently won a couple sets of those on yahoo here for ultima front and rear, and sets of 4 for the optima, mid etc.dangermouse wrote: I've got a few different sets to suit Kyosho 2wd's and 4wd's as well.
Really need to post them in the BST 'cause, just after wining them, I decided to do away with yokomo wheels and go for 12mm hexes on all my cars
I don't know how popular they are since most folks either go all the way original or use contemporary 2.2 wheels.
Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
Very nice car.... by the way if your are thinking about fitting a clipper clutch you can use the one from the Boss Cat
Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
Nice car!!!, just a note, the front one way drive shafts are on wrong! the larger part of the unit should be at the base of the transmission, not at the wheel hubs, hope it helps

Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
Thanks for the comments guys.
I'll keep an eye out for a Bosscat slipper old racer. I used to actually have a layshaft made up to run a Team Pitstop (i think) JRX2 slipper on my old Procat back in the day. I don't know what happened to it, must have gone when I stupidly sold my JRX2's years ago.
I did find the layshaft I ran back when I experimented with a PB mini mustang 2 speed setup.
Scott, yes but there is a method to my madness. I always ran the one-ways on the outside to make it easier to switch between part time and full time 4WD depending on conditions. Much quicker to just substitute the outer part of the driveshaft, rather than having to remove the crashback front end to get to them.

Re: Schumacher Cat XLS runner
I ran my drive shafts like this - The fat part of the one ways used to rub on the front shocks if I built my procat with them fixed to the diff.
It didn't make any difference to the car's handling although I guess it theoretically increases the unsprung weight.

Or they act as a gyroscope because of the high spinning speedminichamps11 wrote: I guess it theoretically increases the unsprung weight.
