Overwhelmed with vintage R/C stuff

Post by dldiaz »

I was typing a PM to RCveteran, when a certain paragraph I typed kinda struck me:

"My wife gives me hell about this - I have 2,500+ feedback on eBay, and it is 99.99% R/C stuff purchased over the last 15 yrs.
I am so overwhelmed with parts, motors, bodies, unfinished models, etc. that it takes me several hours to find what I am looking for!
Some day I will take a couple weeks off work and go through everything..."

I know the feeling. Sometimes I look around and think about how much money I have tied up in all this and what could I be doing with that money if I sold it all. Then I shake my head and realize that would be silly. Collecting, building and playing with vintage RCs is what I WANT to be doing. That makes it ok, right? Thank goodness for this support group!

X2.... RC has been a constant in my life since I was 7. As much as I should be doing other things I seem to get the most enjoyment out of RC.

Everyone needs a hobby. It gets overwhelming when you try more than one hobby for me. Overwhelmed with parts...I can relate

In all seriousness though I do till my collection occasionally and thin down to keep it manageable. Currently I wish I had some of the parts back but the hunt is on and that is fun. For a while I went down the path of having every early car I owned as a kid or wanted and it got out of control. I now primarily focus my vintage efforts on what we all know is the best car ever JRX2/T.

I know how you feel, If I had all the money back that I've spent on beer, I'd spend it on beer!

I look at it this way. My entire collection is worth less than a mediocre vintage 1:1 car. It's a choice between 1 car I'd eventually get bored on or several different types that I don't. I don't know if I'll ever get to finish off all of my projects and ideas but at least I'll have fun along the way.
