In the last 3 years I have finally gotten back to the hobby of my youth and have restored my first ever 1/10 RC car, a Kyosho Raider, back to running condition (sometimes). I have changed the following from the stock car to have great fun racing around the neighborhood parks:
- Hobbywing Quicrun 1080 80amp WP Brushed Crawler ESC
- Tamiya Super Stock Motor Type TZ
- Kyosho Scorpion 2014 front wheels
- Kyosho DBX / DST rear wheels
The upgraded parts unfortunately grind the stock Raider differential into pulp within a few runs. With the stock differential becoming both expensive and hard to find, I am looking for an alternative that would fit my Raider. Would anyone have any good pointers?
P.S. I have heard of the Thorp Dirt Burners for Raider 5200 differential, but this differential is even harder to find than the stock differential.

Re: Aftermarket differential for Kyosho Raider
The thorp 5200 diff uses a 5202 diff gear which is a 44t 32p gear. You might be able to Frankenstein (ok Frankenstein’s monster but that is another debate lol) something together since that is a relatively easy to find size gear.

Re: Aftermarket differential for Kyosho Raider
What size of idler gear would one use in combination with a Thorp 5200 differential? I ask because by my count the stock differential uses a 47t gear with unknown (to me) pitch.

Oh that is strange.... it should have been the same tooth count. You wouldn’t change the idler

Re: Aftermarket differential for Kyosho Raider
Mark was a huge help in helping me source the parts I needed to make install an aftermarket diff in my Raider and talk me through it. I recently followed the same plan he developed and I made a Youtube DYI video on it. This option should not only prove to be much stronger than the stock Raider diff but also a solid performance upgrade!
