B3 -- B4 parts interchange

Post by CrazyRC »

I'm looking at my parts stash, and I have an extra B3 chassis that's in decent shape, and I have the opportunity to pick up a B4 with a cracked chassis for cheap, is it possible to mix and match stuff to put the B4 bulkhead and suspension on the B3 chassis? Sorry for the newbie questions, I'm still pretty new to the hobby.

Very different indeed!
This is an interesting question. I'm struggling to think of a single molded part that was carried over from the B3.
From trans cases to suspension uprights, the B4 is entirely different from its predecessors.

and making it even trickier, the B4 went from imperial (B4 and B4.1) to both metric and imperial (B4.2)... so some B4 parts do not interchange with...B4
edit- I could have sworn hardware and some parts changed however it may be just the transmission that went partially metric
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

Ah yes, let us not forget.

Did that change occur before or after the communist take-over :?:

As a mechanic, those 2 words gave me the chills, bringing up memories of GM during their changeover period.

Thanks for the replies. Now I have the task of convincing myself to not pick up the B4 and get a chassis for it, as well as build the B3 chassis. Because I REALLY need 2 more cars.

Well I firmly believe that one cannot have too many RC's.

If you do decide to get a B4, I don't think you will be disappointed. I have two at the moment; a FT for the shelf and a well used RTR for the track. Besides handling like nothing I've ever driven before (even in out-of-the-box configuration), I really appreciate that the RTR came with a gear diff. With it's 3500kV brushless motor the car is virtually maintenance free. Just toss in a charged battery and go have fun. And, this could be the only RC that I haven't managed to break so far. The B4 is a just an all-around great car.

Just remind her that you're "that guy" and she'll be fine.

... or, you could buy her an RC of her own??? :D

And here I am looking exactly for that, a cheap broke T4 parts car for the T4 factory team "shelfer" I'm building. Original plan was to convert my T4 RTR into a FT since I already have the carbon chassis and a bunch of T4 FT parts, but I enjoy running the RTR too much. So the factory team is getting built from the ground up, just looking for a parts car for many of the parts the FT and RTR share.
Even though it would be fantastic if you were to pass on the cracked chassis T4 and give me the info to pick it up, there are a few used T4 chassis' for sale on ebay at the moment in the $40-$50 dollar range. You may not regret picking one up for the cracked chassis T4 for yourself. But if you do happen to pass on it, I'd be grateful if you let me know
