Tamiya grasshopper, for the track!

Put this together recently, thought some of you might like it.

I love the grasshopper, but it needs a little help.
A friend developed some conversion parts for grasshopper 2. I decided to adapt them for the original.

Plan was to build something that will handle well and cope with 13.5t brushless happily.

The main part of the conversion is using the transmission from a thunder shot series car.

This requires 2 bobbins to be made, these allow the lower mounts to fit nicely to the grasshopper

It then attaches at the top with some ball ends and m3 rod



And some rackets bolted to the tub to pick up the middle mount

An frp rear tower was made


And the body notched slightly to clear the upper links

3d printed 3 degree toe in rear hubs and shumacher turnbuckles


The front required a 3d printed mount to take more thunder shot arms. It used 3d printed 5 degree castor c hubs, and dto2 knuckles.

There wasn't enough room to mount the shocks like a gh2 super g, so the mounts were removed and an frp tower made.

It has jc 2.2 wheels and schumacher tyres. Cut stagger low on the front and darts in the rear

Mci decals and some old schumacher springs (the green was a happy coincidence!) Finished it off

Its first track outing was a huge success. It's far greater than the sum of its parts. Handles great, jumps great, it's amazing!

Once the steering had been dialed in, it's very placable and stable, easy to drive fast. The suspension guesses were good but could do with maybe a little more front damping.

Would really like a lexan grasshopper body for this.
I like the way the hard body braces the tub, but the rear wing section is fragile.

Was it parma that used to make one?
Not seen one for sale for a long time though.

That performs pretty well on the track. Nice and innovative modification for a classic.

Grasshopper my first buggy, I think a hopper can dominate against anything today!! It's a sleeper keep the classics alive buddy.
