Losi Oval Build, some pix and some ?'s
This is a chassis I bought off of Dirt oval.com. It initially had lxt rear arms, and a hacked front bulkhead with what I think are XX front arms. I cleaned it up and added some things.
I believe that the chassis and shock toweres are compostie craft. New parts for this build are the RPM oval front bumper, Pure-tech 6 cell strap, and RPM 0degree rear hinge pin carrier. Other upgrades include ball bearing steering, and a mip 2.6 change box conversion. The 2.18 ratio is probably better for an oval car, but this is all I had clean and ready for a build, might be ok if I go with truck wheels.
I wanted to use all RPM arms, but there is no clearance for the shock mount on the left rear, and I did not want to cut down the shock mount on the arms as I do not like modifying parts if I don't have to. Similarly, the only arms that fit up front are the stockers. The rpm bumper is about 1/16" wider than the chassis plate and it interferes with the down-travel of the arms, I tried thicker andys and rpm arms and they don't fit, only the thin stock arms fit without binding. The rear bulkhead ws trimmed on the sides for shock clearance. Front shocks are AE.71 rears are losi short shocks off a junior-2(the donor car for most of the suspension) with 3/8" of spacers inside.
Because of the shock mount issue on the rear, I had to set the wheelbase to the longer of the 2 even with the stock h-arms. the wheelbase winds up at 11.5"
Does anyone know of a body that would fit this? I was hoping to go with a latemodel type body, but given the wheelbase, may have to put truck tires on and call it a truck instead.
Any input from the oval gurus is appreciated.

Re: Losi Oval Build, some pix and some ?'s
i'm pretty sure that's an lxt oval chassis... mainly because of the wheelbase. but also with the offset of the battery. i don't think the jrx2/t oval chassis was offset that much. i think the battery was farther front, too. sheldons had a few of them, and i procrastinated getting one until they were all gone (the jrx2/t chassis). i wanted to have one to go along with my c.c. rc10 oval chassis.
any of the late model bodies should fit, i'd think. just make sure it's wide enough (obviously
), and get one that doesn't have predetermined wheel openings. that way you can put them where you need them.

It is an LXT chassis, it has 2 sets of rear suspesnion mount holes. The offset isn't an issue with the lxt because of how the shocks mount to the arms.
Thanks for the info.

if you move the rear end pieces to the swb mounting points, does the left rear shock interfere with the chassis? from the pics it looks like it'd be ok.

Re: Losi Oval Build, some pix and some ?'s
It just clears the chassis, but rubs the velcro slightly. I could get away with a button head screw to mount the shocks in the swb position, but couldn't find one long enough in my parts bin.

Re: Losi Oval Build, some pix and some ?'s
hello Anthony,
I have a suggestion if you want to use RPM arms on the front.
You can use a thin spacer between the bulkhead and the chassis which will provide additional spacing between the arms and the bumper. This is similar to how the original jrx2 bumper was mounted. You can use a piece of kydex to make the spacer. If you don't have anything, let me know and I can make one for you.
The rear arms a little bit more difficult. You can run a mid motor conversion, but that will require a lot more modification to the stock losi parts (bulkhead, gear box, motor plate).
Here's a picture of the oval chassis that I have for the jrx2. It's a bit dirty still since I haven't done anything with it yet.
Regards,
highwayracer

highway, is that a raborn chassis? looks like it. i was unaware that they made one of their "where do i want to put my batteries" chassis' for the losi. i like how the 5 link can still be used also.

damn, i have been looking for one of thoes rayborn losi chassis for years. i never found one so this is what i came up with instead. it ran suprisingly well, i raced it for 3 years and it flew for a 15 year old car.

Re: Losi Oval Build, some pix and some ?'s
I picked up a different chassis and swapped it out. This is what I should have used to begin with. The material used for this chassis is slightly thicker than the lxt version so I have no problems with binding up front, I'll have to try it with the aftermarket arms.
I need to find wheels and a body to fit and I should be good to go.
Plenty of time for those as the outdoor race season is over and there are no local indoor tracks.

Paid more for shipping than for the winning bid on the chassis.

I saw that one but I decided to let it go since I already had one.aconsola wrote: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330276292664

The car looks so much better with that chassis on it vs. the other one. As for the wheels and tires, you can get the losi dish wheels that were made for foam tires. HPI also had the foam setup on their star wheels (for buggies).

trc made premounted foams for the losi vehicles, also.
if your gonna run it, i'd just get a set of mounted foams from custom works or rc4less. they should keep the track width very close to the stock buggy track width. and they bolt right up, and you can get all of the current compounds. the rc4less rims are orange, too.
