RC10NDS period correct nitro engines?

Ok im building a RC10NDS for the shelf, What nitro engines were common in them back when they came out? Id like to find something from back then in new condition so as many options as possible would be appreciated.

I'm thinkin an OS cz-z .12 would be a good period correct motor for an NDS but can't find the timeline for the cz-z...If I'm wrong on this one I'm sure someone will correct it for me .

They used to be littered all over ebay but now I rarely see them. If you get in a bind and absolutely just hafta have a cz-z drop me a pm and I'll see what I have that I can spare. Another one I have seen in some NDS which I always liked but the motor wasn't a very good one was the OS .12 motor that 'layed down'. I can't remember the model but it wasn't a very popular motor but the motor dropped the center of gravity a ton and tucked neatly under the body better than most heads did.

Another popular engine of the time was the Dynamite S and SPD .12 engines. These engines are actually still in stock at Horizon.

I had MORE fun with these engines in Gas trucks on a track with HUGE straights. Most of them would run for quite some time but with use, the rod bushings would develope slop and eventally you would be wide open down the straight and PING - through the block. They were really good about replacing them and if my memory serves me they were almost as fast as the CZ-Z engines!

I had a .12 Dynamite Paris Dish engine in both my NDS 'racer' kit and in my 10GT. Thought it was very fast until my buddy got a new 10GT with an OS CV-X. The OS DESTROYED the Dynamite engine in top speed, though the Dynamite seemed to start more easily than his OS. There's actually some old video footage of us on youtube running our GTs(from like '97) that shows my Dynamite engine starting on 1st pull, while he takes a while to get his running. There's also some NDS footage in that same vid.

We were both in the Air Force at the time, and I had a base cop buddy clock my wide open throttle NDS w/ his radar gun in the commissary parking lot, and all the Paris Dish engine could manage was 39mph. We pulled the CVX out of my bud's 10GT and bolted it into the NDS and we were instantly seeing speeds of 52mph. Simply no comparison, though I quite liked the reliability and construction of the Paris Dish engine. I never did like the V shaped cooling fins of the CVX, but that was easily solved by bolting on an aftermarket heat sink head.

I really did love my NDS; the wheels/tires looked scale and it was a blast to drift that thing all over the parking lots, but I never, ever could get that thing to steer. Chronic, chronic understeer. Removed swaybar, soft springs, lighter weight shock oil, receiver pack relicated to front, front tires soaked in syrup for grip- none of it mattered. Just would push at speed when cornering. You'd have to break rear traction and induce oversteer, and steer it with the throttle.

Anyway, it's long been retired to my storage room shelf along with its' Trans Am racing class Ford Mustang body painted up in the Tim Allen Home Improvement Mustang livery. Maybe I'll clean it up & reassemble it and turn it into a sweet static display...

I ended up finding a OS CZ? .12 motor new on eBay. Its a new built shelf car, Just have to paint the body and find some original decals for it, I also have to install some radio gear to hook up all the linkage.
