MYSTERY NOVAK ESC?

Post by Erich Reichert »

Looking at the Novak timeline it looks like a NESC-2 or a 1x from 1985 but there isn't a model name on it. I also have a NESC-1 in my box art rc10 that doesn't have a name on it either... what were the deal with these? Does anyone know definitely what this one is (pictured)

RC10Resto knows about these I believe. I'll see if I can get ahold of him to check it out. I know the ones with no markings are rare.

The early ones also had dot stickers with the model #, sometimes they fall off

Ah ok. Ya if he could lend a little light.

Charlie, would that be where it normally is and just a sticker? Not sure if this one ever had one. The scuffing is pretty consistent across the whole thing.

Whats even more strange is it doesn't look like it was ever opened (there's not black seal between the halves but I don't think they had them back then did they?) but the wires say Race Prep on them. It was definitely used and maybe rewired but not too sure.

it's most likey just the 1x model that predates an actual model number. like the one in the rc10 boxart.

It has an odd one I've never seen before... it sort of looks like the ones on modern Hobbywing sec's. It's hard to see in the pic but it faces up out of that box

yeah, I agree with Jason, probably a T1X proto/early production before a real model number. Nice score.

Sweet! got it in a lot of stuff not too long ago for 60 bucks! Came with a handful of motor and nose plates, a pack of Trinity 1700s, a MIP tranny and some other goodies.

Still a good chance that it is Novak 2. Switch is correct, wish I had a picture of my 2 that burned out in 1986?

I guess I should post a picture of the one I scored with the Custom Works Dominator craigslist lot because it didn't have a model # on it either. It's currently in my green shelfer.

Erich, Your ESC is really close to this 1X, sold/manufactured between 1985-1988:

I ended having a similar esc that originally was used by a top Aussie driver at the 89 worlds. Apparently it was a factory prototype/special. It had the mini switch but I can't remember the model number. Didnt have an x in though.
