Re: 6 gear with brushless
I'm missing part number 6627. Ive seen that number includes both thrust washers and the plastic diff washer as well.

me too...that site is awesome...saved to favoritesgomachv wrote:Wow..bookmarked! Good stuff there!
do you think its a bad twilight zone episode for team associated to be re producing a buggy from yesteryear that is capable of beating their latest and greatest production buggy?
Re: 6 gear with brushless
just checked out that link to the thrust washer set. Why is it so expensive? I'm assuming because those parts are the most easily lost?
Is there absolutely no washer out there that will work from a hardware store like Menards or True Value? That just seems a little expensive for three small parts...

Re: 6 gear with brushless
most hardware that is used on rc cars is usually sourced from industry available stuff so i imagine that if you had the specs of the hardware in question it would be something you could get from mcmaster-carr....unless the parts in question were special ran for associated

Re: Finally... Dave145's Gold Pan Runner Build
After lots more time and parts, here is what the car currently looks like. The battery cup on the back is for the esc because it was too tall to fit under the body with it's fan. The shocks are just tacked in place, they don't have any oil in them yet.
Re: 6 gear with brushless
specialty tempered steel. Those carbide balls would wear normal washer big time which are a softer steel.(ie. Home Depot)
Re: 6 gear with brushless
I put in some standard washer that was similar in size and it literally disappeared. Wouldn't a chrome washer be stronger though?
Re: 6 gear with brushless
From my personal experience:
I put a Novak GTB 4.5 turn(yeah BIG power) on an RC10 Gold Pan with 6 gear trans.
The trans had stock 32p internal gears with a Losi ball bearing diff tube. I never had a failure in MANY LiPO batteries run through it.
Running her on the street with rubber tires first then was forced to switch to foams due to blowouts.
I recently added Thorp 48p internal gears and she's quieter, smoother, STILL no mechanical failures in the trans!
My current dirt oval racer is a RC10 Gold Pan(6 gear trans) Street Stock running a sensored Novak Ballistic 13.5.
I don't think you'll have to worry about the strength of the 6 gear trans. Keep her clean a lubed she should be fine!

Re: 6 gear with brushless
thrust washers and diff rings and diff balls(if not special materials, such as a carbide or ceramic) are hardened steel alloys, which are much more wear resistant than regular old mild steel. This is why they cost so much. You could in theory get them very cheap if you were to custom order like 1000 of them. But you would have to sell them to offset the cost. economy of scale.
and yes, they are making a nice profit on those parts but it's a niche product and thus commands the premium.

Re: 6 gear with brushless
One option (if you can find them) is the steel idler gears that were out a long time ago. I have a set (somewhere) but haven't had a chance to try them yet.

Dave145's gold pan build thread
I actually have a set if those steel idlers in my 6 gear and they do hold up better then the plastic ones. Mine are getting king of worn down though but they do seem to work well enough with bearings in them. I also tun them dry with no oil or anything on them and that seems to work well also. I was more worried about the diff though with the brushless system. Will it survive or will it melt or wear away?
Re: Dave145's gold pan build.
The diff should be fine. As long as you clean/lube regularly. On my race machine(13.5 Novak Ballistic Brushless) I clean/lube before race day, race all day(2 heats/main)...no issues AT ALL so far.
