Re: Scorpion Will Sting Again - 1983 Racer Style
In the process of putting this together, I want a 2.2 runner wheel option, because burning up Holidy Buggy rubber isn't in the pocket book. I found that if you push the roll pin out of the rear wheel backing plate, Racers Edge TU0225 clamp onto the axle right in front of it. Then RPM's 82223 wheels have the right offset, the right chrome look, and fit perfect.
Naturally I still need to make sure the wheels don't slip (and the rt spins itself loose). The wheels have 6mm holes so I should probably sleave the axles too. I'll post pics once I get details figured out.

Hi Y'ernat Al, I tried that method of clamping the hexes onto the axles with wheels I'm using with my buddy's Buffalo, and even with the clamps tightened as much as possible (without breaking the alloy, anyway), the wheels still slipped. Without cross-pins, I don't think that will work very well, at least not with the power of a modern motor. It didn't work with a Kyosho 360 Gold, that's for sure.

Re: Scorpion Will Sting Again - 1983 Racer Style
Yeah I figured, but turns out it'll be fine for me but only because I'm using the larger diameter CRP1702 rear hubs. Turns out I can keep the roll pin in there so the hex mostly just aligns the wheel. The pin still catches the fins on the back of the wheel. Not that spinning the hub discs won't serve as a new revolutionary (pun intended) slipper design.

This works perfect. It’s a guy in California who makes them.

Very interesting! Will that taper fit Optima-style axles?Hcp22 wrote:This works perfect. It’s a guy in California who makes them.

Damn...cuz that would've been the solution to a lot of fit issues. Oh well...

He also makes this to fit RC10 wheels on the Scorpion. This is his eBay ID http://myworld.ebay.com/dwyz250/&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2754

Re: Scorpion Will Sting Again - 1983 Racer Style
So I got this together. The vintage makeover:
And this is most of the new stuff that made it onto it. I still think I'm going to find some decent red 8mm kyoshos for the front and match them to some red CB's in the rear. With gold colars as well (left side of the pic).
After I redo the dampers (the Paranoia bind pretty bad between the shaft and the brass o ring cartride - they are going to have to go), I'm going to have to restore the body at the back, and. Right now I've started looking around for a couple novak midget servos and a period motor, like a pre-platinum checkpoint. Once I get some need period correct electrics in it, the body off shots will come.

Yeah Phin I thought I remember going down that road and not getting any further than maybe, for the 500 rears if I remember? Funny thing is the Dunn's are still around San Diego here. Someday I will find out from the horses mouth.
I have a anno batch I'm collecting of future "Kyosho Shock red" I guess you'd call it. I have a load of shock bodies and they are all polished, faded, and/or pimply. It think I'm even going to do a C tub for fun with it all.
