Can anyone identify this roll cage?

Post by huminski »

Was sealed in a bag, so this is everything it came with. Appears to be 1/10th scale. Ideas?

How do you tell the difference without the chassis? Odds are you're right since most BBT had different side and rear bars than the ones in the pic above but I've seen BBT with those same ones in the pic too. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26119

Actually I'm not sure there is even a difference besides the chassis...I honestly think BBT, Ascot, and Advance Engineering all had their cages made at the same place. :?:

on an ascot, the top of the cage has 2 post on the front to mount a wing. a bbt has 4 tabs (2 front, 2 back).

also, bbt nerf bars have an extra support rod on the bottom from front to back.

my old ascot:

my bbt:

edit: now in your link phin, it looks like what i know as an ascot is in the bbt instructions. other than the chassis plate. could it be an early/late thing? did bbt buy out rcrc/ascot? i don't know.

Not all the BBT had the tabs....the one in the manual doesn't. I think that was a later change that came with the Vindicator models.

edit: Just saw your edit. :)

It gets more confusing if you've seen the Advance Engineering (Mini-Mag makers) sprint car....it's got the cage of an Ascot Challenger, the side bars in Huminski's pic posted above. Chassis uses an RC10 kick-up like the Ascot does too.

Wait....why is your BBT a down tube car?
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

That's the Vindicator. The original version without down tubes was the Desperado.

Edit: Here's the Advance Engineering sprinter....looking at it again it looks like the Desperado and Ascot. I remember seeing a pic of it with the Challenger cage though. :?
