13/54
yep, 32 pitch. I dont have a 12 or I would drop a tooth. Motor gets a bit warm after a 7 minute race. I really should go back to 48 pitch, but I am resisting.

I snagged quite a few 54T spurs from Peg before I left. Maybe I'll give 32p a try. Maybe my spurs will last longer.

I need to set my gear mesh pretty tight due to the large amount of topshaft play. I'm tempted to switch to 32p. With looser gear mesh it might even be more efficient.

. . . you have Associated Green Slime for brains. And not even new Green Slime, but old gooped out Green Slime.

PM me your address and I'll send you one. I'm pretty sure I grabbed 3 or 4 of the 54T spurs.

I pulled my 6 gear trans out of my RC10 box and pulled it apart and cleaned it. I put it back together, adding black lube to all the gear surfaces (I do this in my Stealth's and they are smooth and quiet). I grabbed my 32p spurs and it turns out they are 48T and not 54T. I went ahead and built the diff with one anyway and am going to order up a 11T pinion for my 27T brushed motor. If I get really ambitious, I'll start rebuilding the original short front shocks.

not sure you can get an 11 to a 48...before buying the pinion, see how close you can get the motor.

That's good info, thanks. I just looked on Ebay for a 54T gear and couldn't find one. Are they super rare? Is there another brand I can use?

Does that use the same size diff balls?

Re: Rc10 short arm/ 6 gear setup and race discussion
Thank you, sir. That helps a ton. I now have a $250 list of parts I want to buy. I can see that this will be a slow project.

Re: Rc10 short arm/ 6 gear setup and race discussion
Hi everyone.
This is a great thread. I have a box-stock A stamp car that has been sitting in pieces for a while now. It used to belong to my brother, but he gave it to me when he moved in with his then-girlfriend-now-wife. My old RC10 was sold off when I was in high-school in the early 90's. I really wish I had kept it. It had a graphite chassis, MIP metal gearbox, and one of the Parma Eagle bodies. Such is life.
Anyway, I am thinking of getting the gold-pan rebuilt and doing some racing. I have a newer Tamiya TRF201, but the new cars just don't do it for me as much. I guess I am getting old. Right now the gold pan is box-stock. I am collecting parts, but want to keep it pretty original. Do you all have any good suggestions for a good starting setup? Also, what springs (part numbers if you have them) are you guys running?
JConcepts Rips 1.9" front wheels and tires
JConcepts Double Dees 1.7" rear wheels and tires
Associated bell-crank steering
81t 48p spur gear
?? pinion
27t stock motor
4200 lipo standard (non-shorty) pack
Protech body
Associated 5.5" high downforce wing
Am I missing anything? What springs/shock oil would you guys suggest as a starting point? Any suggestions on the pinion gear? I am new to setting up gold-pans, so any help would be awesome.
I race in JK's neighborhood and my local track is outdoor clay (Freedom Park, Camaillo).
Thanks!

Re: Rc10 short arm/ 6 gear setup and race discussion
So I've got the old 6 gear out again and am going to take a swing at getting it's handling up to par. I've been running it the last couple of weeks with the standard kit tires and a slowish silver can motor. I'm running silver springs all around and 30 wt (I think) all around. I mostly run around in the street and at the park. I've decided a couple of things. The kit tires are rubbish on the street (which makes sense). The fronts are too narrow and really don't offer any grip on the pavement. I could go with the JConcepts tires/wheels, but those would wear out super quick. The issue I'm having is the front pushing and I just can't seem to get the front suspension smooth. Maybe I am just not using thick enough oil. My only solution is go to back to 2.2's. I wish someone would offer up something street worthy in the standard tire size. I ordered up a fresh set of wheels and Traxxas Anaconda tires. I've got all sorts of springs available to play with and 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5 and 35 wt oils.
Lastly, I love running this car with 32p gears. Surprisingly, the transmission is very smooth. I'm currently running a Tamiya Torque Tuned 25T motor, geared 13/54.

Hi Ca-rj,
With your 6 gear are you running the black idlers?
I believe the re-release idlers are made from the same material as the black ones.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDSYG&P=7
I have built two or three 6 gears and you can definitely tell which one has the black idlers.
I also did the RCCA out drive bearing mod, all up it spins like a stealth
Dave.

Re: Rc10 short arm/ 6 gear setup and race discussion
Hi,
With the handling I built my buggy using the CE and Worlds manual, I am using silver springs front
and rear, with the shock shaft spacers as per the CE manual.
That should give you a neutral well handling car, tune from there!
I am running B2/3 2.2 tires and rims, you should see the thing fly, under power the nose comes up
but she is very stable.
Cheers, Dave.
