Dmat's Nix91 + ten4 build
So I finally got my first bit of shapeways parts in so now im gonna try to make this happen.
to keep track of everything for myself, probably gonna have some random stuff here.
due to the quality of shapeway's parts, do you guys think its recommended to try and capture parts that can be locked? like adding a washer and nut to like the rear arm mounts or motor mount brace.
starting off with the rear end.
-rear bulkhead clearance issue. read others nix builds. need to modify some but no issue. mounting with 8-32 x 1/2 screws, not sure about top deck. bearings need to be raised or enlarged to let belt clear top deckI might need to make my own version.
-rear arm mounts, ordered the 302, not the 322, will continue later on. 4-40 x 1/2 screws while recommended length in the manual seem too long.
-stealth trans, check manual for screws needed
-top deck screws. 4-40 x 1/2 flat head and 4-40 x 1/2 pan head. custom design needed to avoid clashes.
-custom front bulkhead/transmission being designed.

Well im starting to get somewhere. as an effort to help verifying my models. I've taken to printing out the faces at a 1:1 scale and comparing with the actual parts to verify the models.
I think I've gotten a version of the rear bulkhead that I like made up at this point trying to keep some influence of both nix and ten4 in it.
looks like a new top plate will be needed. its gonna be interesting to get the belt to go completely over it and back down to the transmission. If there is a way to add a pulley on the teeth side of the belt without messing it up; I'd sure like to know.
getting the carbon fiber parts added in is my next goal, then trying to get the front bulkhead figured out.

You can use a standard toothed pulley as an idler, you just want to try to do most of the moving of the belt on the slack side under power (on the ten4, the top tensions and the bottom slacks) That makes it hard. Still, it can be done. You could always do a two piece upper like the first Lazer, one on each side. Then the belt wouldn't have to be moved. You could also do it like the A&L stiffner kit. Where the two braces are upright. Just some things to think about. It looks great!

So trying to make the transmission brace and no matter how I measure the parts, it doesnt reach the full length. The I assembled the rear end and saw that the original parts didnt line up either.
I'm pulling 1.585 inches and when checking a print of it with an actual brace they line up too. When measuring the space on the parts it was 1.62. the changed that mk-zero did with his ten4 bulkhead lessened it down to 1.595.
is this common or have I just got some odd re re stealth cases? maybe I need another case.
anybody care to post what they measured for the distance between the set of holes.

I did have the same idea when I was doing the Ten4.... but still a lot of problems need to be solved

Got my carbon fiber bits added in. now to see about getting a front transmission in there. doubting it will fit with the top deck like it is though. it can be modified though.

so front transmission wont fit with the top deck as stock. seems like there is 2 ways to go about making this thing in the end.
1. raise the top deck enough to let the transmission sit in there. cutting bits of the top brace off will be required.
2. new top deck altogether.
no clue if anybody else might attempt to make this but I could use some opinions on this. I would think keeping the original top deck in tact would be the best way to go but a new top deck will also require someone willing to make them.

Looks pretty tight up front, you may need to integrate the bulkhead and tranny, but make it 4 bolt to not interfere with the diff.

not much to really speak about. Just trying to understand the gear spacing in the transmissions since I was unhappy with my measuring results. decided to learn how they made and what controls their size and spacing. I'll get a topshaft made another day but for now this helps with the front transmission sizing.

if this was my project, I would separate the top brace at the first set of standoffs, keep the rear half as is, and adjust the front half height to fit the front trans. With this being printed, I would make the trans and arm mounts all one piece for strength, and integrate mounting holes for the top brace somewhere on the trans case, then make small spacers to fill the height gap between the rear top plate and front top plate. Nice thing about this is you can leave the rear half of the brace on if you need to service the front half of the car.

just a few pictures of the almost completed transmission. I'll have to buy some parts if I want to finish it. Imaterialize will probably get an order here soon.
