Gray lexan paint?
So, Tamiya used to offer a nice gray lexan paint, yet there's a mystery about it. The top cap, where the part number would be, was just "PS". There was no number after the PS like on ALL of their other paints. Depending on where you look, you may or may not find any information on it, like it never existed. Very odd. So, I cannot find it anymore, as it's been discontinued, which isn't hard to do since it kinda never really existed to begin with.
Anyways, I need (want) to find another gray paint. The Tamiya Corsa Gray is a little too blue. I was able to paint two bodies with this mysterious Tamiya gray, and want something similar. Ideas anyone?

Re: Gray lexan paint?
In the Vintage Article / Ad Scans, I posted a scan of a Tamiya paint ad I have. It has a few grey shades with color codes...don't know if that will help...

At the end of their PS paint range on the Tamiya.com online catalogue is a list of the limited release paint cans... which includes the following:
ITEM 89911 - PS Anodized Green
ITEM 89912 - PS Irridescent Blue/Green
ITEM 89919 - PS Metallic Wine Red
ITEM 89920 - PS Pastel Gray
ITEM 89922 - PS Bright Mica Red
I'd be guessing it's the Pastel Gray you're looking for... might have to search on the 89920 part number.
Can colours are all here:

You are correct, it was the pastel gray. I just can't find it anymore. Sucks that it was a limited release, and nobody else makes a gray, at least none that I can find.

Re: Gray lexan paint?
Just sucks. I can't believe there is no gray. None. How many polycarbonate paint suppliers do we have, like 3-4, and none have a gray. But with their combined output I could find 14 shades of red, and not one gray.
If anyone comes across some cans of the Tamiya PS Pastel Grey, please let me know.

I know the auto-air paint is the same (or very close) to the fascolor paints. They have this color grey:

Re: Gray lexan paint?
I'm heading into the LHS saturday morning and will check to see if he has any gray left. I know he doesn't carry Tamiya but will check to see what parma/pactra he has left. Might be something to work with...yellowdatsun wrote:Just sucks. I can't believe there is no gray. None. How many polycarbonate paint suppliers do we have, like 3-4, and none have a gray. Wouldn't hurt to add it in the Wanted Section.

Re: Gray lexan paint?
Anyone ever use this stuff? Seems to be a UK product, but there's a distributor in PA. I have a can coming, we'll see how it works out on some spare lexan.

Re: Gray lexan paint?
Acrylic isn't a good choice for Lexan, as it's not very flexible when dry and will crack & flake off if the Lexan is flexed. Maybe okay for a shelf queen, though.

Re: Gray lexan paint?
Parma Faskolor and the new Pactra paint are all acrylics, and that Humbrol Acrylic spray is sold here in the UK as a lexan body spray paint. Most pro painted r/c bodies these days are painted with acrylics. Acrylics take a bit longer to fully cure, but once dry are as tough and durable as lacquer paints.

Re: Gray lexan paint?
I got the Humbrol gray paint in today, and painted a couple wings with it, since they get beat up the most, and are cheap. I didn't want to waste a whole body on it. I'll do some destructive testing after it cures for a couple days.
Actually, even if the wing test fails, it may be ok on a body, since they are protected by the shock towers.
