Just a well known brand power supply with charge rods to hang alligator clips on. Pretty common mod bitd

There was no standard way to attach but I've seen coat hangers and all kinds of weird stuff made up

well here is the history on this feild charger. it looks like it was mike reedys at one time. here is what the seller said: i found a charger with name mike reedy on it, Was he a somebody in racing? I took his name off of it. It was on there with one of those little plastic label printers.

Shame the seller took the liberty of removing the original label... Never get why people find/sell vintage stuff and mess around with it...

Probably a combination of OCD tendencies and ignorance. Myself, I can't seem to keep anything in it's original package which is like vintage death in a way. But I don't wheel and deal much if at all.
