Reedy 1000z+ trouble?

On a full charge pack, my daughter's Reedy 1000z+ goes 100% for 5-7 seconds then drops to about 50% max throttle. It continues to do this throughout the pack. She is having fun driving this re-release, but this is getting frustrating.

As info i bought this about November 2016 and had it in my old B3 to get it and the used reedy 17.5T M2 I bought for it going. It worked fine in that car. I put that speedo and motor into her car and now we are seeing this issue. The instructions are a bit confusing.

Anyone else have this issue with one of these setups?

Are the cells in the battery pack balanced, as in the same voltage for each cell? Are you sure the lipo cut off is set to 3v-3.2v cell (6v-6.4v total)? Is the battery charging to 8.4v? Can you check the voltage drop of the battery pack under load?

Check your sensor wire. They can easily go bad.

I'm using nimh and nicd batteries. The nicds are balanced/matched but old. The nimh are junk. They both worked fine several weeks ago.

I will check the sensor wire and report back.

I have the same problem with a traxxas xl5 esc and brushed motor when run with an older pack in one of my kids cars.

Some esc will go to low voltage mode only when the battery is consistently staying low while others seem to trip lvc mode with any low spike even if voltage recovers. They stay in cutoff mode until reset by disconnecting then plugging back in. Hard acceleration with a fully charged but old and saggy voltage battery will set lvc cutoff after a few seconds of running in this particular car. If I disable LVC or use a new strong lipo the car runs fine for the full capacity of the battery.

How old are the batteries? Sounds like an issue I have. I'vegot several old packs, about 10-15 yrs old that do the same thing. Problem is one of the cells in the pack has gone bad. You get all six cells for a short period and then you're on five cells. Best way to check is to cycle or run the batteries, check the voltage after on each cell (if you can) and look for the one that is off from the rest.

Another way to tell is if one of the cells feels hotter then the rest.

NiMh were terrible for dropping cells. You'd constantly be swapping bad cells with good cells from a "parts" pack.

I've been doing some reading and thinking on this. And some experimenting.

I think if I add a power diode or glitch saver this could solve my issue. My radio is glitchier than it ever was and I think a voltage drop w my hitec servo through this old futaba receiver is causing the ESC to go into a safe mode. I tried a nice reedy sonic 6.5 T motor on a full charge and it acted the same way toward the end of the pack, but the first 3-4 minutes were awesome. Then it started the same issue and even completely crap off twice. I think I need a power diode/glitch saver to keep enough power I the BEC circuit.

Reviews on these diodes seem to suggest that others have had similar trouble.

I had a similar problem, the modern ESC's low-voltage cutoff combined with a weak NiMH battery pack was the problem. With NiMHs you can remove the low-voltage cutoff because you'd actually want the pack to fully discharge, but if you did that with a LiPo battery, you'd burn up your car with a nasty LiPo fire.

that's your culprit. pick up some newer LiPo's. Ni-XX packs are a thing of the past, and that's not even considering the fact that these have actually aged as you can see - they can't deliver the wattage your speedo is asking

I tried the glitch buster; Same result. Funny thing was when I put my Fluke meter on the BEC terminals to find the + I only got 5.08 V on the meter from a full charged older scrc battery.

I'm gonna try a lipo battey.

The lipo battery solved the problem. Also, I've never seen that much power. Wow. Makes these brushless motors shine. Need to tame it back a bit.
